Betta gift....?

i think you need to put a lock on the door to your room and alert your mother as to their activities. animal abuse is a serious thing. how old are they?
hope the bettas are doing ok though.

thats even more serious. 17 year olds shouldnt act like that. these boys need to be sat down and talked with seriously. i thought they were 13 or something. they obviously have control and attention issues. you need to get your parents involved before they turn 18. then parents dont really have much say.

That's so good that you are taking in these fish. Is it possible to get a lock on your door to keep your brothers out? Also what do your parents say about all this? I can tell you if my kids were doing something like this I would have them at a psychiatrist, that is serious stuff. :/

Well my mom doesn't want to yell at my brothers friends, but she really doesn't yell at my brother either... I'm the only one who cares about the fish right now, but my mom is pissed that the kids keep screwing with my stuff...

some people just don't give a spit....like my nephew, someone dared him to throw a toad in the camp fire....so he does! or one time we were driving to a lake, and i was in the back seat, watching some kids on the side of the road....well, after we passed by them, they walked into the middle of the road with a small snake, and threw the thing on the ground and started stomping it! i was so mad.....if i wasn't so young, i woulda jumped outta the car and......nvm.  :X :sly:  :grr:

oh ok-i thought you said the boys were actually your brothers. well tell your mom to have a talk with their mom. they are 17. they should not act this way unless something is seriously wrong in their heads (which this is obviously the case). i really think you should point out the parallels in animal and human abuse. does your brother act this juvenile as well?

I have another question about these bettas.. How long will it take for his fins to grow back?

well throwing it out of a car...that takes the cake for me.

as for fish fighting...i don't know. i personally think its cruel, but it happens.

i just hope you guys never take a trip over to thailand/vietnam/etc. you would be in tears seeing the endless betta fights they stage for bets.

fights don't bug me....i mean....it IS there nature.....but it's an opinion.....but theres just no reason for everything else....it's just sick and dimented(sp?)

well it all depends on the damage inflicted and general health of your Bettas. If we could get some pictures we might be able to give you a closer estimate.

to stimulate fin growth though...

well first to prevent infection get some medications to help prevent infections, there are running debates on here, so I am pretty sure you'll be able to figure out which is best for yourself.

make sure that your water's clean and do regular 25% water changes. I'd personally use Melafix since it's always done me well.

an ideal water temperature would bo 80 or more degrees F or 27-28 celsius.

to deal with stress and give your fish much needed electrolytes, add some aquarium salt. (please read drections)

If at all possible make sure that the water in the tanks does not mix to prevent one Betta from possibly infecting another.

I'd say that with regular treatment and some good old TLC you'll see a huge difference in two weeks.

(please feel free to correct me if I have made a mistake here. I am no expert in the care of Tropical fish.)

Well, as for fin healing, my little boy split his fin from end to just about a cm from his body (all my bettas have really nice fins, too.)

It healed in about 4 days, surprisingly enough. Just do water changes and other things, you can expect the tails to start noticibly growing back within a few days.

Your friends suck. Get a lock on your door and keep it locked.

I'd just stay away from those monsters. They don't sound like anyone any responsible person should hang out with.

Good luck with the new fish. Do you have names for them yet?

Becca

Cool names :D Unfortunately I know what's it like to know people like this... a friend of mine has some and she lets them run all over her... The best I can say is get your mom in on it and make sure that they can't get to your stuff. Maybe telling them off would help, but I don't know what you situation is like so... anyhoo, good luck with the bettas and I hope you get to enjoy them.
