Betta gift....?

im guessing your "friends" are 13 year old boys who still havent hit puberty yet and/or they have very low self esteem. people that are not satisfied with themselves often abuse animals because it gives them a sense of power. (people abuse starts with animal abuse too. see if you can help your friends before they start abusing people too) animal abuse and people abuse check out these statistics too. they are rather shocking. thank goodness you are around to take in what they have tried to destroy.

bettas dont require much maintenance. you should put them in at least a 1 gal container and use some sort of dechlorinator since there is probably chlorine in yuor tap water. stresscoat is an all around good product. it dechlorinates and adds back the lost slime coating. but im sure you already have something like this (novaqua or biocoat). if you have any melafix, that would be good to add too.

im assuming you feed yuor puffer frozen food so you can probably use that for the bettas too. if not, betta pellets arent that expensive.

giving them away is also an option so your friends wont be able to get to them again. if you do that, make sure the person knows how to properly care for them.

sadly, fish arent considered as animals in the legal system or the spca. they would just laugh at him.

Jac, Thanks for pointing out the relation between animal abuse and human abuse. I was thinking the exact same thing when read this post.

Godric, seriously, you need to rethink calling these people your friends. They are dangerous people and you don't sound like you follow in their lead (which is GREAT!). Go out and spend time with your friends that have morals and aren't in danger of becoming felons (if they haven't already, hehe). You sound like a real good person, you care about the fish, now spend time with other people like yourself :)

And yes, unfortunatley fish are not considered "animals" to the ASPCA's, so nothing that can be done there (YET).

Dont really want to preach to you but if these are your friends and you want to continue being friends with them you really need to lay down boundaries with them, they should stay away from your fishtanks this is your personal space and they should respect you so.

Its good to hear that you have a kind heart and have rescued these bettas, as others have said here requirements are:

1. At least 1 gallon tank (100% water change twice a week)
2. Dechlorinator
3. Some bettamax or melafix or aquarium salt to medicate them
4. Frozen Bloodworms / Mosquito lavae or Hikari Micro Pellets

Hope this helps

That's so,so true :( IME, they just forward you here and there because they don't know what to do. So they try and pawn you off on eachother. :/

You need new friends.

That's the best advice anyone could possibly give you on the situation.

I've known people whose lives have fallen apart simply due to the bad company they kept.

And none of them listened when people said, "You need new friends."

Yea I know what I'm doing.. Today I got home from work and my mom told me they emptied the water in one of the betta containers.. I AM PISSED. AND MY PUFFER IS VERY JUMPY AND SCARED.... But I took these fish into my hands and now I'm spending money to take care of them... Everything is going well so far, I'll post pics in a second...

and also, I don't have one gallon tanks, they are more like 1/2 gallon... They are quite suitable though, and I have everything else and they are doing just fine....

By emptying the water I mean emptied all of it and left the fish with no water in his tank....

And these kids aren't really my friends, they are my twin brothers, so it seems like they are because I'm always around them.
