My betta has pretty severe fin rot, he has had it for a while and it is extremely close to all of his fin destroyed. He has many open wounds and is very lethargic. I have tried medications and aquarium salt before but the fin rot is far too advanced for that, I need something better. Any help?

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - ?

Weekly 20-30% water change is my maintenance

The volume of water he is in and its purity, please. I would usually add a little salt as a tonic but that is a last resort. 25% water changes.

How old is this guy, he might be just on his last legs. These fish are very highly bred and there genetics are often not very stable, so they succumb to a break down in there immune system

He's in a 22l tank, not sure about the water's purity but my water is very hard if that helps. Not sure how old my betta is, got him from the pet shop around 6-12 months ago, he had fin rot in the shop but I never knew it was fin rot, I doubt he is very old.

I would try to soften the water these fish naturally come from Asia where the water is soft

What can I do to cure his fin rot? Is there a cure? My guy is barely hanging on here, thinking about putting him out of his misery.

Pictures of the fish?
Is there a filter in the tank?
What is the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and GH of the tank water and your water source?

In severe cases of fin rot, anti-biotics might be required. However, they should only be used as a last resort and are not readily available in some countries.

Hello Colin, thank you for offering help.

I don't really want to post a picture of my fish, just know he definitely has fin rot, many open wounds, can barely swim. His dorsal and anal fins are very damaged but his dorsal fin can just barely be seen. His ventral fins are also very damaged.

Yes, there is a filter in the tank.

Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate listed at the top, pH is 8.4 or above and GH is very hard (no exact number, I think it was around 9 last time I checked?). My water is tap water which is then treated using the stuff that gets rid of the chlorine.

Tried antibiotics once, nothing seemed to happen. Probably immune to that antibiotic now so I need a really good one, my guy needs it. I live in the United Kingdom, many antibiotics can be bought from amazon etc.

Any severe fin rot antibiotics would be really nice, please do not waste time saying salt or water changes, I have tried those and they are not for severe fin rot. Thanks

I can't offer advice on types of anti-biotics because we have tough regulations on anti-biotics here too.

The ph is far to high somehow you need to bring that done to around 7. Also the hardness is a concern It sounds like you have some sea shells coral or limestone in this tank that is buffering the water.

The Ph in British water is 8.5, that is why it is so high. I need to do something, even if it is putting chemicals in the water to help. It is either I find an antibiotic to help him or something else or I put him out of his misery.

My betta also have fin rot but he just getting better yesterday
What you need to do is get him a Qt tank then do Daily 90% water changes and added Indian almond leaves.
