I recently got a betta fish that was in a tank with about 30 guppies (about a 5 gallon tank) and he seemed quite calm but he was swimming back and forth on the right side of the tank over and over. When I got him home to my 20 gallon he’s done the same thing. I covered the side he swims on thinking he was seeing his reflection and nothing has changed. He’s not aggressive at all nor does he seem sick but he’s so engrossed in doing this that he doesn’t see the food I put in for him. All other fish act fine and don’t even bother him. Water parameters are temp of 80, ph 7.6 ammonia 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate. Very planted tank as well. Is he just a little dumb or is there anything I can do?

How long have you had him in that tank and what other fish are with him? If he is new to the tank then he is probably just stressed. Give him time. It can take a bit. Turn the lights off or down to help relieve stress. :)

He’s been in there two days with 4 guppies 2 of which I bought from the same tank he was in, 4 cories, 2 white clouds (left over from the massive deaths that happened a while ago, and 4 ember tetra. Lights are dim and even when they are off I see him doing it but hopefully he calms down

I have that in there, I’m wondering if he was just so used to doing it in the other tank that he’s doing it in mine too
Oh I never had a beta so I don’t know lol. Dress coat always helps imo
