Well about 5 minutes ago I was giving my betta a treat of live black worms, after gobbleing 2 up, it appeared like blood was comeing out of his gills and his mounth. It stoped and he looks fine now, the water parameters are fine, i just did a complete tank cleaning on his 2.5 gallon mini bow on sunday, anyone know if this is normal??? if it isnt, is there anything i can do.

How long did that go on for?
Is that the first time you've noticed it?
I guess it's possible the blood was from the worm, but I haven't ever seen that when my fish eat BLOOD worms...

How much blood was it?
Was he doing anything really odd while it was happening??

it is the first time i noticed it, it is also the first time that ive ever really watched him eat a black worm.

He wasnt doing anything weird when he ate it just gobbleing up a few black worms, it wasnt really alot of blood just like 4 or 5 whisps that came out of his mouth and gills.

I hope hes ok, hes real pretty

me to, only thing is he seems to be resting now and he doesnt get all excited when i look at him

That's...weird.... I've honestly never heard of anything like that happening, but I can attest to the fact that blackworms bleed. I chopped some up into pieces once...made QUITE the mess. So the blood could have been from them, and let's hope it was.

What's he doing now? You say he's resting, but how? On a plant? On the bottom? In what position?

Well he is swiming around now but kinda keeping to himself... Not much i can do really, I guess Ill just have to wait till tommorrow and c

He seems to be fine now, he is pranceing happily around his tank, watching me doing homework and flaring at me trying to get some more attention. Damn fish scared me there fer a minute, if he passed on that woulda been 2 fish in one week, a dwarf gourmie due to cronice fin rot which i tryed everything to fix . And then Angus the betta but he seems all good :fun:

Whew - I'm glad to hear it.
I had to run out for a bit and wanted to stop back by to see how he's doing.

Sounds like he's gonna be fine :)

Food does come out of the gills, nothing to worry about.

Yupp my guy is doing good today. But thanks everybody fer the help/support :)

Man, if you wanna see a lot of food coming out of fish's gills, watch Oscars eat something that they don't like the taste of. They are a MESS when they chew up the food, and spit it back out of their mouth and gills.

As for your betta, I'm glad to hear that he/she is ok. :)

Glad to hear you little guy is doing better. That's great news.

Or if they are like one of my oscars, gets too much in his mouth. He gets as much as he can physically fit in there and grinds it down eventually but whilst he is doing that loads of the food that he can't manage to swallow comes out of his gills. It doesn't go to waste though as the other fish in the tank follow him around and eat what he lets go of and they don't have to worry about breaking the food up.
