My red platty lived great for a year and developed bent spine for last few weeks. I have a guppy in the tank that looks fine.

Red platty was a bent spine and the stomach towards the tail has become very thin. worried if this a fishTB. please advise.

thanks for your help.

Poor thing.

Causes of a bent spine are -
Old age.
Birth defect.
Injury.
Vitamin deficiency.
Internal parasites.
Fish TB.

Need to ask you some questions to get to the cause of the problem,.

How many gallons is your tank please?
Full stocking list?
Water stats. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph?

What does your fish waste look like when they go to the toilet?
Check all your fish anus area to see if it looks emlarged, or red and inflamed?
Have you seen any worms sticking out of the fish anus?
Do any of your fish look skinny, or have sunken in bellies?
Do any fish swim on there sides?
Are any fish showing any other symptoms like, dropsy, popeye, black iris, black
patches on body or fins, red sores, or red streaking?
Could the fish have injured itself?

Poor guy. :( Unfortunately, there's no way of fixing this problem. If he eats normally and everything, it's best to let him be. :)

I had one platy like that, it was one of my only two shop purchased platies that gave birth to my current bunch of platies. She developed exactly the same condition as your platy but besides that, no other signs of disease. She was like that for a good 2-3 months before she died. I blame it on old age but I don't know, maybe internal organ damage of some sort in her life before she came to me as she was a grown up adult. She had as good as appetite as any of the others, but wasn't so competitive for food the poor thing and I hand fed her every day. She got so used of me and was coming for a kiss of my fingers every time. I think she could have been old enough in my opinion.
If you decide to go the extra mile to feed her, hold food between your fingers and put it slightly below the surface just in front of her, because she can't straighten her back to get it from the surface easily.

Regardless, the same can be caused by internal infection of some sort, parasites, water quality, etc..
Maybe it's the special way old platies leave this world :/ or it was a non-contagious disease that didn't affect any other platy or fish, who knows...

I have had a couple go like that in the past. It might have been coincidence but they both had bent spines after they gave birth. They didn't live too long after that anyways. Their fry live on.

I agree. You can't mend a bent spine. But we do need to rule some ailments out to make sure the other fish are not a risk.

Check all your fish for long stringy waste.
Is the fish eating well but just not putting weight on?

The only way to know if a fish does have Fish TB is to have test done on the dead fish.
The fish is only showing 2 symptoms of Fish TB. So can't really say it is yet.
If the fish is over a year old and show no signs of internal parasites. It's so far looking like old age.

I will leave you a good link to Fish TB just so you know the symptoms to look out for.
