Beginnings of a 220Uk gallon reeftank

mmm not bad...... not bad......... - I like the idea of low maintenance and minimal water changes. But I bet there's far more to it than meets the eye :shifty:

Stability is the key.
Freshwater fish (and marine fish around rockpools) live in some of the most changeable and hostile environments in the underwater world. When you consider rivers dry up..pools heat up and get starved of oxygen, etc etc...
This means over millions of years, freshwater fish have adapted to live withquickly changing water coditons (within reason of course). Yet Marine fish have devloped over milions of years to cope with an ocean that rarely changes.. salt stays the same, temperature rarely chages etc etc. So marine life cannot handle changes in water peramters. If you can keep the water stable (usually by keeping your hands out of hte tank and allowing it to develope naturally) then you are well on the way to having a sucessful marine tank. ;)

Thanks for the info on water changes, i didnt know about that with marine set ups.

Have you ever thought of getting a French Angelfish (black body with yellow stripes), i saw one at my LFS and they are stunning but had a big price tag og over £100 though :p

OK latest update..

Some new additions to the tank. MY long awaited Sohal tang and replacement Asfur Angel.

Not very reef safe either :/

They are all beautiful, but wow, that Sohal tang is stunning !

That Sohal Tang is a really beautiful fish and it looks as it is really swimming fast in your picture, I dread to think how long it took you to get it's picture.

I don't have that kind of patience I would have caught it in a net and then got the wife to take a quick picture

Fantastic new Tang!

I guess the french angel was a poor suggestion but then i dont know anything about marines. :p They certainly do go through a big colour change!

OK time for an update :D

Here is the tank as it is of tonight. The hood is now in place and hides the glare from the halides. The tank is still open top but at least we dont h ave to wear shades in the house anymore :D Still need to do some work on the hood but its getting there.

I always laughed when I looked at my sisters bedroom (it's a seperate cottage in the garden) and she used to keep marines. At night, the whole cottage had a purple glow beaming from the windows !

Long time between updates Nav, but weel worth the wait! :hey: That corraline on the left side is to die for! :hyper: And the Venusta Angel rocks! Have you replaced your moth fish? U still wanna get one?
