Baby Rotkeil Serverum Diary. Hatched 4/3/10

It was a member of the forum who had my convict babies from me told me how quick they had grown so I asked what the secret was  and he told me he did twice a day WC no difference in feeding, so I changed to 25% twice a day and they are growing beautifully!

Just did a 50% water change, it should have happened at the weekend...I'll do another one Sunday evening I think...I'm not around enough to do daily changes hence 50% changes each time

You know, I have been so tempted to just go out and get some green severum, but I just have to look at a Rotkeil pic or two and my patience returns :)
I may get some headstanders in the meantime though

Majority of batch 1 now are a good 1" so I think maybe a couple more weeks and I would be happy to send yours out, if you want them small to put with the HRP babies. Or I can still hold them to 2" to put in your main tank, its upto you.

Thanks for the option, I'll have to see...I might well end up not being ready until they are 2". It would also make sense to wait before any big move until they're a little bigger anyway, I just want some severum so bad that's all, I'm my own worst enemy sometimes :)

I might take them earlier if I can find the time to rescape the main tank and get the female HRP in there...that way it will be just fry in the smaller tank and no risk of the female HRP taking offence of foreign fish in there with her babies. She still leaves nearly all food for them and even mashing it up for them when she doesn't need to.

I want to rescape the main tank before any more fish anyway, so that I am future proofed with all the nooks and crannies I'll need and have that nice open space for the rotkeils later down the road too :)

I have some nice 3mm clear perspex sheets to put up against the glass sides I want to lean rocks against. It should mean I can arrange all the extra granite/slate I have together at one end of the tank mostly, and have the bit piece of bogwood, which I may drill a 12" cave into it, at the other end. The only thing I am not sure about is whether to put some gravel in at the rock end, and have half sand half gravel with a divide in between. It's gonna take some real planning and effort

When will they be ready, do you think? I'm interested in a couple for my tank, but would have to have them delivered as I live too far away. However I am in all day as work from home, so that will mean the fishies won't be in the bag any longer than strictly necessary :)

I dont know when they will be ready. I am not "force" growing them, the biggest at the mo is about 1" so at least a couple of months before they get to about 2" which is the size I am aiming for before letting them go so I can be sure they are fit and healthy enough to make journies. However, please dont be offended but you have an oscar and a GT which grow faster the rotties and I think adding babies would be asking for trouble.

Please let me know when they are ready because I want some..tanks

Hi Volak, for couriouring the fish personally I would prefer if they were around the 2" mark just to make sure they make the journey, as soon as they are ready I will post a message here and in the classified section.

The babies have now reached 1" and are now on sale for collection only. Limited amount as I am keeping a few to grow to 2" (as reserved) for posting.
