how long does it take for a baby lyretale molly to get a lyretaly? because my female lyretale had babies (only found 4). and so far i dont see a lyretale on any of them?

oh i am so sorry i must have forgot or something, my bad. but could u help me and tell me when u think they should start getting their lyretail? please help, and i wont post the same thing twice i promise.

wooh, whats the big deal. He only wants to know something.. and it's just the same as bumping topics which i see loads of people doing and no-one complains

Think they will start to show as the fry start to mature a bit more. A few weeks to a month maybe. Just depends what they are fed and what water conditions they are under

Hope it helps a bit!

I personally, have never had Lyretails breed. There are quite hard to breed from my understranding ( the male's gonopudim(sp?) not functioning correctly...etc). So, im assuming that you put her in a breeder? Or did you just find them in the tank and assume that they are hers? If you know mfor a fact that theya re hers, i would suspect that they will evenmtually grow, or the lyretail gene is recessive and this batch dosent have it. I dont know if this helped you.

The lyretail gene is a particularly bizarre one. As Krib said it's usually recessive but it shows up in the weirdest places sometimes. My LFS has lyre mollies at the moment with normal gonopodiums that I can only assume are able to mate, but most lyretail strains are only fertile if regular fin males are used. I had a regular female sailfin molly throw a heap of fry before I even knew that there was a lyretail strain of mollies, and a few months later, whoops, they all sprouted lyretails. It took over two months for mine to develop.

What's so bad about a 'newbie forum' anyway? I don't even want to think how many fish I would have killed if I didn't have a forum full of experienced people to help me through illnesses, tank crashes etc. Those of us who have the experience and the knowledge should be willing to share it. It's not like there aren't people here who are willing and able to answer advanced questions, even if there aren't many of them.

well i know for a fact that she is the mom, but whatm i forgot is the dad? there is a 50% chance that the dad was sailfin
