Baby Fighter!

Hi

They only take their first breath, at the surface, at about 3 weeks of age. It takes that long for their Labyrinth organ to develop :good:

Thats why its important to keep a good fitting lid on to keep the air temperature high. If the air temp is too cool when they take that first breath it can kill them.

Netty says, keep the water level at 6" till they are bigger :good:

Thats great :)

The water level is about 6" and i've got a sponge filter coiming so might have to take the water level up a bit...

Ive got a cendensation tray which is very snug and the tank above the surface is very wet.

That's fine.....we use condensation trays too. Also if you angle the sponge filter slightly it should fit without you having to increase the water level.

I was checking under Bluey's poly cup in his tank and spotted a baby in there with him.....must of caught it when catching dad.

It's at least 1 1/2 times bigger and browner than the ones in the 2ft tank..... might be coz the temp is higher due to having a new heater.

now should i leave it be or catch it and put it in a trap till i can sort the 2ft tank out a bit....

I know they are ment to be in shallow water but this tank is full and its doing fine...

Advice please :good:

If he's in there with dad take him out! dad will eat him if he spots him!

i will go do it now.

Thanks wilson for the fast responce.

I think the reason the fry you recently found is bigger, is due to him not being around in water with a growth hormone given off by other fry to stunt growth. He also hasn't had to compete for food as much. Congrats on the find!

All my fry died apart from the one i had in the 3ft tank its getting big now and cant wait to find out if its a boy or girl lol...

Boy put him in the 60l to grow and giving to a friend as hers passed away..
Girl put her in the 4ft tank and breed the other female again.

now im feeding it on crushed tetrabetta flakes with shrimp and krill

It's a shame you lost them all bar one, but it does happen sometimes. Lets hope he grows into a nice male for you :good:

I think it was coz i found it hard to get food to them, im going to get a brineshrimp hatchery at the end of the month and try again :)

Just out of interest, what food did you feed them with? Sorry for the loss of your fry, the one thats left shows promise though!

the ones in the tank I was feeding them egglayers baby food then on to livebearers food but the one in the fighter tank was eating small diaphina that my male missed now its on crushed tetrabetta food going to get some live brineshrimps on wed/thurs and catch some small ones for the baby.

This is him now...

He has 2 black lines running from his mouth through his eyes and down the length of his body

How cute....glad to see he is growing well :good: The black lines will disappear once he starts to colour up more.

Hes getting big now and is in his own tank...

I reduced the water back to 6-7 inches as he was always behind the filter.. this has been removed due to,to much current...

Todays pics..
