Below is a copy of my g/friends post in another forum but she is goin off her head with worry n i thought some of you guys could offer some advice

My female betta has been mauled, her fins are torn her tail has been shredded her dorsal fin look as if it has been bitten in half!!! I have no idea who done it or how it happened, so i rushed down to the Pet store and got that Methylyne blue stuff ypu all talk about.... not got enough money to but another tank so have her in a 1/2 gallon at the mo... with the blue water..... she is eating flakes that i added and is swimming relatively well......... is there any thing else i can do???

What other fish do you have in the tank? Check the pH and see if thats changed, also Melafix will probably help the recovery.
 
as lithril said, we need to know what else is in the tank, tank size, water parameters, etc.
 
Ripped and torn fins will grow back in time, with lots of good clean aged water you shouldnt need to add any medications unless some other problems crop up. Although I have also used melafix to good effect with similar problems in angels.
Methylene Blue is pretty useless at treating anything but may prevent fungus or bacterial infection but I would steer clear of stressing the fish out with meds while it is recovering.
As for the cause, its anyones guess until we get the info the guys mentioned above.
