Arrowanas

I agree - an Oddballs and Predators section would fit quite nicely rather than separating the 2.

I don't see why it needs to be oddballs *and* predators. It's not like there's any confusion, just looks more messy.

I'd say the distinction is with clearly predatory fish like phirana or snakeheads that can't be put in the community tank but aren't nececerally oddball. I'm sure there are oddballs like BGKF that wouldn't be considered predatory that can inhabit the larger community but are considered oddballs.

BGF are considered predatory. Snakeheads are oddballs, they aren't 'classic' gouramis so don't come under that section.

If you look at the oddballs section as it is, the majority of the topics should really be in the predatory section. However, members who specialise in the more predatory oddballs are more likely to be in the predatory section, missing the topics in oddballs.

Neither forum is hugely busy, it's not as if the situation is anything like the betta/gourami one (where previouslly bettas were included in the gourami section, however there's a billion betta posts for every gourami one and a separate section was a good plan).

The arrowanas goes to both predatory and the oddball sections...Why you are saying? here is the reason for the arrowanas to be in predatory section: For example the silver arowna that lives in the Amazon river feeds on a lot of things here is what they usually prey on (Fishes-baby caiman-beetles-small monkyes-mice-grasshoppers-crickets and a lot more!!).And this is why the arowana should be in oddballs section: The arowana is an unusuall looking fish.... for the person who sees the arowana in the first time will think that it is from the eels family or maybe a water snake!! see, this is not worthy all the arguments that you guys had been having......for short arowanas can be in any of the two sections (predatory-oddballs) choose wich ever the section you want.

This isn't 'where should arowana go'. Old news. This is now 'so what's actually the point of having oddballs *and* predators when they're essentially the same thing'.

But, however, they're not....as explained several times "not all oddballs are predators"..cos some people don't keep them they think no one else deserves their own sections which is basically selfish and unfair to those on here who do.....

not all 'oddball' fish are predatory and not all 'predatory' fish are odd.
and that was a FACT by the way, just for those who obviously can't grasp the whole concept.
what about....... pacu, fairly odd fish, eats fruit and vegetable matter, predatory?........ i think not
i could list a few, but to be honest i'm getting quite bored of stupid, not to mention pointless arguments over pointless things that in all honestly affect absolutely no one.
there was a question asked, thats what this whole thread was for, the answer is quite obviously predatory section,
why start arguing? pointless, and quite pathetic really

No, they're not. But the majority of them are. However, people 'in the know' about predatory fish also tend to be quite good at answering questions about the non-predatory ones. With two sections, those who keep mainly/only predators are more likely to stick to that section, therefore meaning the questions about non-predators are less likely to get the answers they deserve.

But to add to that, confusion as to what fish should go in what section definitely exists, and for example you still find a lot of people posting about predators in the oddballs section. But because people are expecting the posts in the predator section, again the questions are less likely to get the answer they deserve.

Neither section has enough traffic to overwhelm the other- when it was just oddballs, you can hardly say that questions regarding non-predators were ignored because there were so many predatory questions, and in a way, vice-versa- there aren't really enough non-predatory questions for it to need to be separate.

And presuming "Buddyboy67" is in some way refering to me, just because I don't have any non-predators at the moment, doesn't mean I haven't in the past, or indeed that I haven't posted threads about them either. I have now and have had in the past predators, plus have been here plenty long enough to make observations about how the forum works. I've seen forums that have been completely ruined by pandering to everyone and making a section for literally anything you can think of.
