Just a thought.......if topics weren't repeated sometimes then wouldn't the forum soon have nothing to say or reply to???? with the exception of chit chat and general talk perhaps!!!!

I think repeat questions don't really matter if there's a considerable amount of time inbetween askings, but in this case where the same question was posted a few times in a very short space of time is just pointless, a little bit of effort before posting would prevent this. But hey, if it's already been done, moaning isn't going to fix it!

Besides, in most cases I think it's quite possible that you'd be able to find an answer quicker by searching than starting a post and waiting for replies, depending on who is around at the time.

My 2p ;)

It does annoy me a bit on certain topics, like the good olf gravel vs. sand one. It doesn't take much to look back a little.

I always answer, I'll just have a *sigh* first.

However, I understand that newbiews don't know how to use the board and that others might not know a subject has been up. I also think that the mods (lol, no offense of course) should see what topics keep cropping up all the time and perhaps look at pinning them.

I think on the whole it doesn't matter at all! Obviously the more common ones can be looked up, but it's better to tolerate and help rather than being bitchy about it isn't it.

were is the search button just wondering?
At the top. It's the button that says "Search".
the problem with the search feature is that MANY have no clue what to search for...because they have no clue what they are dealing with.

i remember the first time my fish had ich...i had no idea what it was so how would i have used the search?

i have to agree that it is petty to complain
most repeated questions are from new fish owners/ members
most likely, they are in a panic or just completely confused
why does it matter they ask again?
who does it hurt?
i mean, if the same question is on the same PAGE i could see you getting a little annoyed
but to make light of this situation,
would it not be more mature to post a link of the other post in the repeated question in a playful manner, adding a laughing smiley and commenting something friendly like "tsk tsk :p , looks like SOMEONE didn't read ahead! :D "
or "silly boy/girl this question has already been asked today, check HERE"

and if it is a short answer, how hard is it to rewrite the 2 sentences you wrote last week?
or for longer answers, just post a link to the page it was previously answered

all of these can be done instead of being rude and ignoreing a cry for help
the fish world is scarey at first, and to be ignorant or rude can be discouraging to a newbie, why ruin it for them?
don't you guys remember posting a question that you found quite urgent and checking, and checking with still no reply?
did you not find this frustrating?
did you ever have the intention of reposting something asked a billion times? did you mean to ask too difficult a question or maybe too simple a question that maybe other members found a "waste of time"

most people who come here are completely lost as to what they are doing
i am thinking that some people have too much time on their hands so are beginning to "nitpick" the forum
i have news for you
you can't perfect perfection :p
so grow up already,
there are more important things in life then making people "apologize" or feel bad for something that is hardly a crime
it won't kill you to repeat yourself from time to time

TROLLING or FLAMING are problems
go fix them,
repeating posts? give me a break

Tus is true but there is a pinned topic on diseases and there's one on Ich by itself from what I can remember.

I understand your point though, the search is no use to someone who does not know what they are searching for. However, with things like gavel vs. sand it's easily looked up.

I also agree with chali (I think it was them) in that if people simply searched we may well be left with nowt to talk about!

*Sobbing* Fine I wont ask anymore questions :-( . People need to chill out 8) BlueIce, brings up a good point ICH is a very common post, but when your a newbie you are like WTF. How do you do a search for ICH when your a newbie? Do you type in white little dot thingys? Good luck with getting something to pop out. Let us all remember when you guys were a newbies, how would you feel with someone saying do a search dummy and adding fuel to the fire 5 more people saying ya do a search this question has been answered. Let us be one be happy forum

Also, even if you know what you're looking for, there might be problems. Say someone was wanting to ask about substrate and they did a search on "substrate" in topic titles, and the last few threads like that were titled something like "sand or gravel?!" it wouldn't pick it up. I usually do a search before i post a thread just there isn't something identical which would waste people's time when they could be replying to more urgent threads BUT if i was having a genuine panicky emergency I wouldn't...hmmm.... dunno where i'm going with this. :D I think my view is that it doesnt really matter, especially in the case of emergencies.

also it gives new people a chance to comment on old topics, cos on some boards ( dunno about this one) people get really cross if you bring an old thread back to the top by replying to it.

The search would pick up "substrate". You need to ask it to specifically to search only titles for it to not search the entire posts.

Just for future reference. :)

It is hard if your new and don't know much about forums to not just come on and ask what ever questions are bothering you and expect that its never been answered for. You'll notice the same kindly people reply to these repeated questions each time so that the newbie can sought themselves out, if people just said, do a search each time then the person is usually put of the forum for life or ends up not being able to sought their problem out and becomes dissilusioned (Sp?). so sometimes repeat topics are pretty neccessary. :)

:D have we ever considered that some of the newbies are only asking questions to get a replie

if this is so then if none of us replied to these questions then they would not look in on the site again and we would be the ones to lose out ultimately as the more plp that join us the more information we can gather plp are the power dont pin these newbie down we need them to survive as a forum let them ask there questions reply to them and maybee one day they will help you out of a sticky situation

:/ did not mean to go on but i must have posted 5 topics before i got a reply that reply gave me the confideince to relpy to other plp topice and post my own

so we are sorry that we dont compleatly scan the site first before we post :D

but you love us newbies :D as you can tell us what we are doing wrong
