Arcadia Leds's

Hi, has any one got/used these and are they worth the money?

I was at my LFS this morning [went for frozen food and came home with 8 fish :hyper: ] and the guy was telling me about them. I had seen them before up there and the effect on the tank is amazing! But at a cost!
I would be using them on my brackish tank with my GSP's and only use light for aesthetic purposes.

Any opinions?

hi lisa,a friend of mine purchased some leds but they wern't arcadia, after using them on her planted tank she wasnt really impressed with the effect they had on her plants, but the look of the tank itself was really nice,if you have enough and they are powerful enough, placed high enough they do create water rippling effect but you would need a few to acheive this,so as far as plants are concerned they aint too good, but asthetically speaking, they are great, but its really up to your personal preference.kind regards_Rebaka.........x

Hello, maybe you can try to buy the led light from these sites:BangGood,DX,FP,etc...
They selling much less than 10 dollars, I just update my old LED light with led last month, It works like champion remain now.
Hope these can help you find some high quality and cheap led light:D

Here are a couple of shaky pictures for you to be going on with. They're a bit plagued by reflections as i said, but you get the general idea. I will get some better ones this evening when the daylight has gone and i can have all the lights off. :good:

Ooooo I love your tank :good: The lights look good but it is just a white type of light, if that make sense, from what I've seen of the Arcadias they throw out a really warm looking colour....if that too makes sense

I think my buy it finger has itched enough, I deserve a reward today, it's just taken me 4 hours to put up my new LG surround....told you I was no good with DIY [first time I've ever drilled a hole pmsl at 42 years of age!

So.....off I go to Ebay!!!!!!

Yeah Matt's are multicolour i think. I went with the white as i wanted a crisp low light tank, but i may have to buy another 2 strips, which is ok as i can just wire them into the same controller. :good:

Does anyone know if these will be available for T5 size? Im very interested :)

Also, divegirl, do you have them now? Will you be posting pics? I have wanted LED's for ages, mainly to reduced heat in the summer and still be able to have the lights on

Also, can you dim them down/up, i want something i can turn off gradually at night, rather than the instant day to dark situation i have now :S

Not all LED's run cool, those aimed aquariums generally run very hot indeed, with the Arcadia unit having so many LED's my guess is that they're lower power, probably 0.5-1W each, but they'll still get warm.

If you were to build your own unit you can incorporate a dimmer switch too, or use different numbers of series to replicate sunrise and sunset, SuperColey1 rigged his so that there were 5 series, replicating the sunrise-sunset situation, check out his build, it's a nice idea.

If you're looking for a unit that will fit a T5 tube holder then TMC do a kit for their aquarays that would be suitable.

Nice one, il have a look at the TMC kit. I would love to build my own, but im terrible at DIY. I know i should be capable, i completed a C&G 2330 level 2 course a few years ago just to see if i could do it, but im just rubbish at doing things. Recently i had to trim down the shed door as it caught on the paving. Once completed it looked like i had locked a pack of starving dogs in there for a fews weeks and they had all been trying to dig their out
