Arcadia Leds's

The Arcadia lights are fantastic, their Nature (i think!?) is the paler light, mostly whites and yellows and greens, their 'Tropical' has a lot more red LEDS then they have their 'Marine Blue'.

Have a colleague running an amazing marine tank with really good very happy corals under two natures and a blue.

They look really good, this is why all the newer MA shops are changing all the lighting over to Arcadias LEDs, because they look great and show up all the best colours. They dont produce heat, they fit into normal T8 light units, they look good, they are high enough intensity for a lot of plants and corals, they last a long time, compared to buying new light bulbs with the prices going up all the time...

I wouldnt dare bodge together LEDs, it would save money but id be permanently terrified. I've had a serious electric shock through water and dodgy electrics (on a skimmer actually) and i NEVER want to go through that again. I wouldnt trust any unit not put together proffesionally, id always be worried...

It's hardly a bodge, the wiring will be exactly the same as the Arcadia units except that the LED's are powered by current controlling drivers and don't use resistors. It's a 24V DC 0.7A low current circuit, not 240V AC mains current, If you were to make a unit obviously you'd have to prevent it from being splashed due to the risk of short circuits, if you look at my journal you'll see the unit, that is pre-fabrication, it will be splash proof. A lot of marine folk are now building their own units, the cost of the Arcadia units is a joke seriously. The TMC Aqua Rays are better than the Arcadia strips from experience, I'd suggest pricing those up also.

I do agree they are priced too high but i still rate them over TMCs Aqua Rays

Thanks for all the input guys :good: I do have to admit I am pretty certain I'll get them....especially as the kids shrugged their collective shoulders at the price and said to go for it if I'll shut up about the bluddy lights  They don't share my fishy passion

Its in eBay gu10 bulbs fits in the normal household gu10 holders. Go for 3 x 1 w led bulbs.. If you you really want to have fun with led, go for super powerful 10w led flood lights. These r more powerful then led units for marine aquariums. And cost 10 time cheaper.. They r waterproof too.. Again search in eBay. ( cool white r the one u need..)

Get before and after photos :)

Sounds great lisa. Looking forward to seeing the outcome! :) Definately worth it for the ease of just buying and thats it. :D

If these cheapo jobbies are of any use i will let you know and share a few pictures with you and everyone.

If they're decent then i will be getting one for all my tanks. :D

Yes i did. I can remember it now from when you first posted it. :good: Should look excellent with the new LED's WHEN you get them :D

Hi, has any one got/used these and are they worth the money?

I was at my LFS this morning [went for frozen food and came home with 8 fish :hyper: ] and the guy was telling me about them. I had seen them before up there and the effect on the tank is amazing! But at a cost!
I would be using them on my brackish tank with my GSP's and only use light for aesthetic purposes.

Any opinions?

hi lisa,a friend of mine purchased some leds but they wern't arcadia, after using them on her planted tank she wasnt really impressed with the effect they had on her plants, but the look of the tank itself was really nice,if you have enough and they are powerful enough, placed high enough they do create water rippling effect but you would need a few to acheive this,so as far as plants are concerned they aint too good, but asthetically speaking, they are great, but its really up to your personal preference.kind regards_Rebaka.........x

It depends on which you get. The more high end ones are better for plants hence why a lot of top aqua scapers use them. But these usually cost x amount more. Sbs's setup that he has made is more aimed at plants as that is what he is into, the ones I have chosen will do diddly squat for plants which is fine as it has no plants

Right, leds fitted... They make great moonlighting. Not good enough for full time use though I shouldn't think.

I am not stalking you I promise....just happened to be on early :shifty: Will we have to wait till tonight for a full range of pics? My Ebay buying button finger is getting itchy!
Do you have a link to the ones you got too please?

Lisa x

Just on my phone atm so can't get you a link, but they were £10.29 I think. 2x48 leds with power. The moonlight effect is great, far better than the blue, especially seeing as the moonlight isn't blue. may use them all the time, they're growing on me! Worth a tenner for sure!

Just took a picture but it looks brighter than what it is so will have to wait until tonight to get one with less reflections.
