Whenever i sit down in front of the tank to look at it, water spots really guide all the attention to themselves. I've tried wiping them off with a damp paper towel, but then come the streaks. Are there any DIY glass cleaners or cleaning products like windex that i could use? I know my LFS has fish-safe cleaners, and although they'd probably be best, finding something that i already have would be better :)

I use windex, works very well, never had a problem with it.
Just make sure the hood is clo0sed... ;)

I use a bit of water and some microfiber cloth -- not because I'm paranoid about killing my fish, I'm just to cheap to purchase windex to clean the glass. It works for my eyeglasses, it'll work on your tank. :nods:

I use tank water & a towel. I have yet to do a water change without some water ending up where it shouldn't be, so I always have a towel handy. After tank maintainance the floor & the tank get wiped down.

Tolak

Dampen a cloth with vinegar diluted with a little water and given a good final wipe with a lint free cloth and your glass will be sparkling.

I wipe the marks off with a damp cloth and then go over it with a dry cloth. The fish follow my hand because the greedy pigs think they are going to get more food! :)

I use windex and a paper towel, the only thing is I get fuzz on it from the paper towel and have to go over it with a shirt or something from the dirty clothes pile

If i want to do a thorough job I get the windex, or if I just want to get rid of them for taking a picture or something I dip a towel in the tank and wipe the front of the tank, then wipe with a dry towel. Both ways work great.

haha I like the greedy pigs part.

My fish are fasinated by the spray that hits the glass.

I do the same exact thing. Execpt take out the floor part of it.

I use Windex too, but am careful never to spray it directly on the tank itself. It's a chemical you don't want in the water, so spray it onto a paper towel first. To be safe, walk away from the tank when you do it so that no spray that could get in the air gets near the tank. Then wipe the glass.

Also, it pays to get into the habit of washing your hands immediately after you finish. With all that clean glass, it's easy to see something that might not be in order inside the tank and, without thinking, reach in to fix it.
