Am I being too much of a stickler? (AITA)

People that make decisions without any research or paying attention to one that has knowledge can be a pain... If you can save the fish, fine but I wouldn't bail them out in any other way. If you do it just empowers them to make rash decisions in the future as they just feel that someone will bail them out without their having to take responsibility.

Just my opinion.

I feel the same way. That's why I'm not taking the tank. They can give it away on Facebook marketplace or something. But until then, every time someone goes into their room they have to explain why there's an aquarium full of gross algae and no other life

Their fault that they didn’t listen to you… I wonder what’ll happen to their fish. At least you can say I told you so….

I took the fish and offered them to my LFS. Every thing else I'm making them deal with. Not letting the animals die, but certainly not cleaning up the rest of their mess
