Just wondering what the general opinion is on the accuracy of the aquarium filtration capacity on the Aq Advisor site ?

I have in my 155 litre osaka tank with fluval 205 filter the following fish

6 neon tetra
6 tri cory
3 pearl gourami
2 parrot platies

According to the site i`m at 94% filtration and should look into adding more.I was swithering to buy a 305 fluval so I could add in maybe some more tetra - do I really need the extra filtration ?

cheers for your thoughts.

Filtration is something I would like to go overkill just for the fact it circulates, moves the water to provide oxygen, alot of your filtration, bio is stored up there. I believe the aq advisor is pretty good at estimating the filtration capacity.
Currently your filter is rated for your tank, so as you start to take your stocking to the limit you need a higher rated filter. Since I believe filters are rated for only a modestly stocked tank.

Well from the mods point of view --> ##144### <-- you can't say it on the forum, it's like a swear word!

But to be truthful, any advice on stocking can be answered quickly from many opinions on the forum, so thats what I'd do... Ask on here :good:

Though be prepared for the OTT people - "2 Platys in a 100l *gasp - OVERSTOCKED!" :grr:

In whats basically a 45 gallon tank that is no where near 90% stocked IMO - if you want to upgrade the filtration go for it :) But as you mentioned you could easily add more tetras and cories. Maybe even an other feature fish as well.

Aq thingy is okay for toting up numbers of fish in your head but if you know your fish and their size etc you can do that anyway but its an okay tool to assist you.

Shall maybe put a 305 filter on the santa list - at least then I know when I put some more fish in I will still have a big excess of filtration capacity.

From the mod's point of view ... there was a significant amount of time the site was infected with malware and we didn't want anyone clicking on a link from here to an infected site. If any other site linked to from here has malware on it, we'll do the same.

If the site is 'un-infected' will the mods change the word block?

James.

If that is true my fish would all be dead - Oh My God!! Not 17 fish in a 155L!!!! You don't need a 305 to allow you to add more fish, I'd add another 15 neons without any worries. A 305 would be great because over filtration is never a bad thing, but it is not required. If you look in your tank and think - wow that looks empty chances are that you CAN add more fish. Anyway it's your choice and as long as theres no ammonia, nitrite and very little nitrate go ahead and add more fish!

Good Luck with the tank.

P.S. I wouldn't bother with that website, it's a waste of time. Just do what you've done and ask on here.

most of the experienced fish keepers on here will tell you the same thing - - don't waste your time on that site.

from a tech view - the person did a good job...

from the point of view regarding fish keeping / compatibility / water requirements / tank set up requirements / stocking levels etc....it was not done by an experienced fish keeper.

you best bet is to come on here and wait a few hours for helpful responses that will help lead to long and healthy lives for the fish, rather than go for the "quick answer" and have a disastrous tank!

i know the guy who did it, h would do a better job if more ppl help contribute by trlling there experiences and facts on species. He tries hard but, its mostly for begginers or ppl who want a rough Idea.

how will we know when we all get malware again (i was one that got infected).

My virus blocker blocked it one time when I went on there.

What's Malware? When it can read your info?

Malware will access you system just as spyware will. Worms and Trojan horses are most commonly spread by malware. It was a Trojan i recieved from that site. I personally wouldn't go near it with a barge pole.

I remember the first time I came across the site and I did indeed receive various warnings from my anti virus & malware programs.Seems to be ok for now though. I found it quite handy for checking the ph and temp requirements for different fish.
