Just thought I'd let you all know of another small cheap tank, it's alot smaller then the one on offer with wilkos / aldi but has a few extra features. I personally don't like how small it is and wouldn't consider keeping anything in it(maybe juvenile cherry shrimp) but each to there own :D Anyway they had the following 'aqua box' by fish r fun in my local garden centre for £18.99, specs are as follows;

The Aquabox is a great way to enjoy fishkeeping on a smaller scale, but with many of the benifits usually only seen in larger, more expensive Aquariums.

Aquabox is a glass Aquarium which comes complete with an internal Power filter with adjustable flow rate, clear rigid plastic cover, built in drawer for keeping food, water conditioners etc. to hand, an adjustable light unit which also features a 5w LED bulb for 'moonlight' effect once the main light is switched off.

Aquarium Capacity - 5.5 litres

Aquarium Dimensions - 21 x 19 x 28cm

Supplied in a full colour display box

If they had it in a larger size I'd snap it up as some of those features such as the moonlight & drawer are very appealing.

:hyper: it looks great but too small, I suppose you could have weed and water snails in there   If it was just a tad bigger and had a lid it would be betta!!

I have one of them, my first betta went in it before i found out they need at least a 2 gal,

Nice little tank, shame they only come in that size:(

Thought I'd add in my bit with small tanks. I recently bought an Arcadia Arc Tank 35 Litre and you can see pics on my other post [topic="237855"](here)[/topic]. I found that the glass lid of this tank was not too safe for kids and didn't fit too well either but it may be OK for some.

I have now ordered the classica aquacurve which I will also be posting pics of when it is setup. The link for the place I am getting it from does a few small tanks so take a look below:

Right I'm going on my soapbox, it's overdue :D

Firstly, these 1.5g Aquaboxes do have lids, so that's the first issue dealt with.
Secondly, I have no issue with the size at all. I have 5 bettas in these tanks at the moment, I've had several bettas reside in these Aquaboxes and have always been happy, healthy fish. The fish in these boxes have been more confident and more showy than the fish in the 2, 3 and 8 gallon tanks.

A betta living in a 1.5g Aquabox is like me spending the rest of my life in my living room, provided I have something to eat, someone to clean me and something to look at, that would be just fine and is no different from keeping any fish in any tank, or any rodent in any cage as so many people do.

Yes if I lived in my lounge for 30 years I might get a bit bored and bit stiff in the muscles, because I wouldn't be walking very far, but if a creature cannot have the free reign of it's natural habitat [the sea, the sky etc.] then it's being kept as a pet in smallish quarters. That is what we are all doing as pet-keepers and whether it's 1.5g or 3g it's not a wealth of rice paddies, so all this crap about it being 'a bit small' is tosh, it's ideal and I recommend it if you are keeping/breeding several bettas as a time. It's not our fault they can't be kept together, if they could we'd all have 100 gallon tanks stocked with 50 bettas  god if only!

I keep mine all next to each other and it has even helped my tail biters refrain from tail biting and being bored and promoted regrowth from flaring.

i've been admiring these aquaboxes for ages......i love the blue light! :good:

i have also seen these tanks in 'The Range' for £19.99

Well don't be put off, they are good tanks, there is room for a 25w 8" heater, they come with a filter should you choose to use one, 2 cut out spaces in the lid for electrical leads, glass tanks so do not promote algae like most small tanks, room for plants, caves etc. they are good tanks :good:

I don't filter mine as the boys prefer them still. I use a Visi-Therm 25w heater in each tank. It has a little drawer in the bottom too for storing betta pellets hehe. It's too cute.

get them a little plant or something to keep them occupied, maybe a mini floating plant of some sort and something at the bottom.
sounds like an ace little setup!

Also I have someone cut those slate caves used for breeding bristlenoses in, into 3 pieces and each betta has a piece of slate cave they sit in, they like that a lot

I nearly bought one yesterday actually...

Query about the filter- how's it attatched? Suckers? Mainly wondering whether you could take it out and replace it with a small HOB- it would free up quite a bit of internal room and you can control the flow easily.

Yeah they are with suckers, how big are HOB's? You could probably use one. I purposely don't use substrate so that the fish get the maximum water volume inside. As I said, because mine are next to each other, the boredom is limited and if I notice any getting bothered by each other, I put a piece of card between the tanks to let them calm down and recouperate.

Hrm, presuming the light is fixed, you could potentially squeeze an Azoo Mignon 60 or Aqua Vital 160 next to it (which are 3.5" across) or go for something bigger at the side.
