I have snails that get rid of my algae...and the baby snails feed my fish. So i got an ecosystem going ;)

an algae magnet is by far the cheapest and most useful thing I've ever bought for the aquarium, I love mine too :p

I haven't actually got one...but I think I'll get one because everyone seems to love them :D

:fish: I've had a set of them for a while now, and really like them a lot! I even rigged an extension for the external magnet, so I can now scrub the back wall, too. :drink:

A word of warning for those that use magnetic algea scrapers, make sure that there are no tiny particals of gravel or sand trapped between the blocks before you use them or you will scratch the inside of the tank. Not only are scratches unsightly they allow algea to get a firm grip in the recess where the scraper cannot wipe it off.

I've used them for a while they are great, the new one I got actually floats if it falls off, saves all those wet arms ......

can someone please tell me what an algae magnet is? :*)
You place one part of the magnet in the tank and the other on the outside of the tank opposite. Then move the magnet around the tank from the outside to clean the inside. It keeps you from having to put your hands/arms in the tank to clean it.

Like CFC said, you have to make sure the magnet is clean or else it will scratch your tank up.

Ugh. So true! I couldn't scrape together enough algae to fill a thimble in all of my tanks combined, but one of my tanks was bought second-hand, and the woman was OBSESSED with her algae magnets (the whole time I was there, she was dragging a set back and forth along the front of her SPOTLESS 60gallon tank). I didn't notice until I had it home and full of water that the inside of the glass has about 3463782452346756 tiny scratches on it. :grr:

Algae magnets r good but the only thing is that they r very ecpensive where i live  :<
