ALERT: Chat Disabled Temporarily

Hi, it is with great regret that I must post that the chat room has been temporarily closed, this is due to abusive behaviour by just a few. In order to maintain our fabulous reputation I have temporarily closed down the chatroom. We will strive to find a replacement - more secure and safe chatroom which we can use, but it is sad that the actions of so few, jealous of the great success of this site, should affect so many.

Many apologies and we hope to have a new chatroom up as soon as possible.

I hope the culprits, and you know who you are as we do too, are proud of themselves. We had a good little chat community going there and now youve gone and ruined it, maybe if you put as much effort into making your own sites better as you do trying to put this one down they might be a half as good as this one

Getting themselves publicity is just what they want. Just be on the look out for anyone who comes here and tells you about their site, if someone does report them to a moderator ASAP. That and also watch out for troublesome posts, these people have proved they pay no respect to rules and have proved themselves to be rude and abusive in nature, whilst on their own sites they may seem perfectly nice, they are trying to tarnish this sites great reputation for their own site gains. This isn't fair they seem to want to cause trouble so be on the lookout and report anything suspicious to me or any of the other moderators. We'll be doing everything we can to protect you guys but extra pairs of eyes are always helpful.

I notice some members have signed up to their site after their blatant advertising campaigns here, do you really want to associate with people of this nature, I'll leave that up to you, but be careful

Personally I have never seen any rude or abusive posts from the two people that I am assuming you're talking about. I also feel that it is not your position to "warn" people about joining other forums, surely it is our own free will to do as we please and join where we like...?

They have never said anything bad about your site, far from it, when I challenged them, they said that they thought

Do you have any specific examples of these people being rude and abusive,
because personally I'm a bit confused...

Are you concerned that people will visit their site instead of yours....because surely it is possible for people to find more than one forum informative.

I dont want to pick a fight with anyone here or anywhere else, but this post has confused me a little and some more clarification would be nice...

Hmm. This thread is making me feel uncomfortable. I'm one of the people who joined 'the other' board. Actually, I joined a third board just last night and that board owner knew who I was because of this and the second board. (confused yet? ) I thought it was really cool that everybody seems to be one big happy family (I saw your posts of congratulations, Will), and thought if there were issues, surely all these boards wouldn't share so many of the same mods. Was something really spiteful done? If so, please say so!! If the horrible act was simply telling people here about another existing board, I'd have to say this seems like a bit of an over reaction. I don't think you have a thing to worry about, William. In fact, I'm actually a mod at the board to which I believe you're referring, but this is still my first stop with new pics and also where I spend the lion's share of my time. Why? Because this is a fantastic board!! There are tons of great people here and it's extremely active around the clock. I hope whatever's going on behind the scenes gets worked out. I'm positive nobody wants tension nor unhappiness here!!

Perhaps it would have been a better idea to post some of the chatter in question and then put it to a vote from the members whether or not to shut it down!!

aaaww, William, I feel empathy for you. You've worked so hard on this site building the family that it has, spending the money & investing the time so that it's easy to find and comes up close to top of the list when people search for help through search engines, not to mention the advertising and FREE picture web space that's provided for your members, I've seen forums that only allow paying members to post pics & you've never asked for a thing from us & it really isn't fair for people to try and persuade others elsewhere and I can't blame you for putting a stop to the "advertisement" of other forums. Let them foot the bill to build up such a reputable site as this one

But rest assured that many,many members,myself included, found a "home of fishy friends" right here . When I needed help this was the 1st place I came and I've never left & no forum can hold a candle to that

Yeah wow. I was really looking forward to chatting.. Don't let the actions of these one or two people punish us.. I'm sure we would not let and "questionable" actions go on when we are in there.. And the actions of these people Does Not represent the rest of us or your forum. I guess in the meantime, if anyone uses AOL Instant messenger we can chat. I'm MmmmWatchtower and we could always start a chatroom there so all can join.. Post up your screennames!

Ok, since this whole thing blew up, I finally checked the forum rules (does anyone?!)
Just to clarify, what is a competing site? I have recommended one or two species specific forums here, and have not had any complaints. Am I in breach of the rules? If so, I apologise sincerely.
I dont want to be pedantic but a lot of the websites I visit and would recommend have their own forums attatched, is posting a link to these sites breaking the rules also?
