Aldi Fish Tank

Some of these pinned threads are looong. im going to be here all night, lol

Thanks x

Marine tanks dont just happen overnight. People spend months researshing about marine and still learn new things after.

Like seffie said you need to have a look at the marine journal section and have a good read.

most people also go for plain backgrounds (normally blue or black).

if you go for marine then the live rock acts as the filter, the powerhead (Koralia nano) will move the water about and will keep the 'live rock' live.

You dont cycle a salt water tank like a freash water tank and the bateria is completly differet (wont live in each others enviroment). When you buy the live rock a small amount of the rock will die off. This is what will cycle the tank.

tsnks deffernotly not big enough for clown fish.

keep reading and ask question if need be.

good luck

True.

Im starting my first marine journey too.

For sand i would reccomend;- http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/aquarium-ornaments/natural-gravels-and-sand/coral-sand-and-marine-substrates/coral-sand-underworld-4k.html

And Regarding how much live rock costs, the prices varies. Most LFS charge around £10/KG, so its advised to keep your eyes opened for someone breaking down a tank, so you can get it for cheaper.

All the other questions you have asked have been answered. So GoodLuck! And make sure you make a journal!!! :good: :)

if i learnt firstly down the fresh water route, is that sand still fine to use?

it would be hard to then move onto salt though, because i don't have room for a second tank and would be too attached to sell any fish on,lol

where are these journals to read through? i can't find them :S

oy difficult this shall be i sense

fresh water is rather simple and i HIGHLY recomend doing this route to start things out (like almost everyone here has been saying). the fish dont cost much compared to the salt water fish and are IMO apparently more hardy as well. with a 14 gallon tank you are somewhat open to a few options in freshwater, and can keep about 2-3 times more fish because they dont require live rock(even if you stayed with marine youll end up with approx less than 10 gallons to put fish in), just a hang on back filter that doesnt take room in the aquarium. fishless cyclying is when you take a PURE source of ammonia (only other ingrediant can be water) which substitues for the fish and cycle it that way without having to worry about floaters. fish-in is going to be worse for you personally because if you get attached to the fish youll be dissapointed they died and will bring you down. ask in tropical discussion theyll tell you all about it.

anemones wont be a good idea as i have been told they get to about 1' in diameter and they also kill coral and most other fish.

and yes id start with shrooms as they are about the easiest coral to take care of.

and the rest i think everyone else fully covered, good luck

btw if you need help navigaing just click on tropical fish forums UNDERNEATH tropical fish forever home, then scroll down till you find what your lookin 4

for the sake of £5 or so i would change the sand if you did makethe change from fresh to marine.

marine journals (top of the page you posted this in)

im sorry but with the questions you are asking, i would stick with freshwater, marines are a completely different kettle of fish although you mix a few techniques, the bacteria etc are generally different

Please do your future stock a favor and buy a good book

Best of luck
