Advice On Moving A Tank Please

Glad to hear it was something simple. Yeah when we look back at needless worry we want to do a facepalm. But it doesn't stop us from worrying the next time.

When all is settled back in, Get Some Rest!

Getting there

Despite all the worries and worst case scenarios that we think of during these times, it all works out for the best in the end.

Think there is now light at the end of the tunnel, just need a little more in terms of planting and putting things back into the tank, only a day or two then you're done :)

Keep up the good work

it's all done. I'll get some photo's up maybe tomorrow. My fish are a bit stressed so I'm leaving them in peace for the rest of the evening

cories are happy with the tank ... they're busy spawning as I type!

That kinda makes sense actually, due to the different waters and temps they're experiencing they may think its changing of season or rainy season as I believe that can trigger spawning in some species of cories as well as plecos.

it's the panda's and the melini's ... definitely seen the panda's laying eggs but the melini's just seem to be practicing. I think I have 2 males and a female of those... it'd be good to increase their numbers seen as I've failed in finding any more

Congrats on the spawn, even though I still think it's not polite to brag.

One day maybe mine will again.

they're still at it!! With a bit of luck I'll have another baby panda turning up in a week or three

It's dark steel grey with a silver fleck in it and it looks better in real life than in a photo!!  I've still got so much to do to get my home back to being tidy and normal though and now my M.E is playing me up and I feel ill :(
Still, no rest for the wicked ...

Looks good have to say :)

It'll all be worth it in the end

yes, I hope so. I just need that sound proof unlay to work!! Guess I'll find out this weekend seen as that's when the noisy neighbour is the noisiest! Got to say ... it does seem very quiet in my living room now so maybe it is working

I had a bit of another drama last night when I was putting the filter back. Moving it and re-fitting it left some air trapped so I picked up the canister (it's an external) and tipped it back (it normally helps untrap any air) and water leaked out of it!! It's never done that before!. I opened it and cleaned the distribution plate and put it back together and stood it on some news paper. It was dry when I went to bed. I'm about to check again and try tipping it again. It it leaks again I'll have to go see the lfs I bought it from as I only got it last year and it has a 5 year guarentee. I may end up having to contact JBL though but I'll see what the first point of contact say

Am certain the new carpet and underlay will make a big difference to soundproofing, carpet is nice and thick that in itself a bit of a sound barrier and having the good underlay is extra soundproofing

As for the filter, it may be the seal or 'o' ring perhaps. Replacement of that is cheap and easy to do. But do get it under the 5 year guarantee/warranty of course and contact LFS if they know of any common occurences with that particular filter, imo all filters have a weak spot.

JBL externals no longer have an 'o' ring. They re-designed them about 18 months ago to do away with the rubber seal entirely. I've just checked the filter again and no leak so it must have been the dirt on the distribution plate and also, thinking about it, my Dad picked it up using the handles on the lid and carried it through from the kitchen for me and placed it in the cupboard. I've always thought that the handles on the lid were a bad idea as it's a weak spot. You are picking it up from the top with the full weight of the whole unit and the water inside. It often feel like the handles are going to break. It's the only fault I've found with these filters. The handles should be built into the canister somehow.
I think carrying it that far possibly did something to the seal and so by me opening it up, cleaning the distribution plate and then closing it it's re-sealed itself. It's a relief but it's also a lesson! Never pick it up by the handles ... I might still contact JBL and point out this weak point and suggest an improvement. They do seem to be a company that keeps trying to find improvements to their filters all the time so maybe they'll look into it.

So, I've just done my water test to see what I've disturbed but my Ammonia and Nitrite are zero and my Nitrates are about 40 so it all looks good. I've not bothered to test pH cos it doesn't need it.

Now my lights are on and all looks okay ... except that blooming plec of mine ... he's been digging and bulldozing ... obviously didn't like the new decor. He's dug up my tigar lotus making himself a space under some wood and if I try to put it back he'll get mad with me and move somewhere else and dig another spot. I did actually consider re-homing him while I had the chance but I havn't the heart. I had to re-home his brother not so long ago so re-homing him is not on. I can't get rid of him just cos he likes to dig ... and eat my plants

Well onward now ... still need to tidy up some more - and vacuum the new carpet is still throwing up little tufty bits and now they're trailed all over the flat. If this special sound proof layer that's under the carpet works I'm going to do the whole flat with it .... can't get away from the drama lol

Really liking the carpet. Really getting me jealous, ours is a lovely shade of dog poo brown.
I'll match you with the drama, carpet is third on the list. First is residing our place, as well as bumping up the insulation, and replacing two windows. Of course the new siding will need to be painted as the primer they use is a nice shade of bile. I can do this myself, with a helper for just 3,000 in materials.
Second is kitchen remodel to replace our gimpy stove. Have a nice double oven in the laundry room, but I will have to modify the cabinets.
Third is the carpet, another job I have experience doing, but like yourself, where do I put everything, including tanks and fish whilst I do this?
Oh and did I mention that thanks to Mrs. doodle being a labor pimp I am now working seven days a week?

you have my sympathy Mr Doodles, this is not a job I want to repeat in a hurry. I can handle living in a mess for a few days .. I'm not an ocd freak to that degree but moving fish and their tank .... not up for that job again!

Next job for my home? ... well there's enough carpet (and possibly underlay too - need to measure first) to carpet my bathroom and seen as it faces north (cold brr) it might make it warmer for bathing and showering in the winter. I've just layed a piece down in there and it looks great so I think I'm going to contact the fitters and get them to come back and put this piece down in the bathroom. Then I turn my attention to sound-proofing the bedroom and little hallway. I currently have a black carpet down in my bedroom and it's only a cheapy one so I'm considering, seen as it'll need to come up anyway, replacing it for better quality and then getting the cheapo stuff put down in the hall instead. It would be nice to have quality in the two main rooms and have the cheap stuff in the room that you just pass through!

... and once I get that done I can guarentee that the housing will call to say they have me a ground floor property to move into (I've been on the waiting list forever!) just cos that is the law of sod lol
