adding tannins to the water... finding a balance for me, my fish, and function, without destroying the look of the tanks

tannins been used for centuries to appease fish stress and is proven to prevent panic attacks when moving fish.

It's widely used to keep betta tame and relax all the time.

You can even dope shrimps to the point they are looking knocked off.
 
I know it's the www. but this from the benefits of the rooibos tea...

this morning, I'm questioning if the use of small wood blocks, or chips in a mesh bag, and added added as filter media, wouldn't make an effective bio media... still retaining the foam, but replacing the ceramic / pumice stone, that often accompsnies a new filter, allow the use of specific wood products, in a high water flow area???
 
Black tea has more tannins than rooibos, green or white teas.
