Does anyone know if adding salt will be bad for silver sharks and high fin catfish?

Been answering your other post, you don't already have them in the tank do you, catfish can't tolerate salt.

Sorry! Thought you'd gone and just wanted to know! Not yet but keep reading that the sharks get big!

I asked my LFS if I could keep these guys in my tank and they said yes! Just can't trust these places! I have been planning what fish to stock and keep getting different answers! Just wanted to know if I could keep them in same tank as lots of peeps say to add salt for the livebearers.

Seems like my tank is too small for nearly all the fish I want!

If livebearers need a little salt to stay healthy, what else can i have?

Thats why is best to buy the biggest tank you can afford, research your fish as it can turn into a nightmare instead of a pleasure, seen it too often, fishkeepers not doing there home work then it turns into a disaster.

The thing is, I have been researching! The reason I wanted silver sharks is cos a couple of websites I've been on have said that a 30 gallon is the smallest that would be suitable. So I also asked 3 different LFS (without buying) and was told the same? Everywhere I go, whether it is on web or in LFS I get told totally different things and end up totally confused? I have changed what I want to get about 4 times now because of this!

There telling porkys, bala shark need to be kept in groups to be happy, they swim fast so need large tanks, or they will get stressed and become ill.

What livebearers do you have :) ? Salt is only beneficial for mollys, and not essential to their health depending on the type of molly.

To research your high finned catfish try a google search for a Paroon Shark, I think its the same thing but I may be wrong, Ive seen them sold as Dolphin Sharks in shops.

Does it look like the lighter one of these two?

cool catfish bigmick!

There is no doubt he is impressive but I didnt buy him, I rescued him from a 3 foot tank in my old work, they bought him at 2"......he is about 10" now and will grow to be a monster, looks like he'll be going to the sealife center or somewhere like that.

......unless I can sort out a huge tank as Ive grown very fond of him and will be sad to see him go but I wouldnt keep him if I cant house him properly. His name is Echo.
