When dealing with normal conversation I agree, acronyms shouldn't be used. However, this is a hobby forum and the use of acronyms in business, trade, hobby, etc. is rather "cultural" and to be expected. Familiarity with the acronyms is almost a right of passage that shows you actual belong with the group. But, since I know we have new people I wanted to use the acronym expander so they don't feel like outsiders. It's a way to have our hobby cake and eat it too.

i have an idea, how about , the first time you use an acronym in a topic , you type it out in full , like practical fishkeeping(PFK_) and then in brackets place the acronym beside it ,

after all that is the grammatically correct way of writing , and makes so much more sense.  that way if you want to be lazy from then on you can , however , all this reliance on acronyms ,  makes the live chat sessions a absolute nightmare as people rely upon them , i do not know how it is for people with their iphones but the majority of us , do not pay by the letter .

more words , Less lazy , (MWLL) think we shoud all reply that when we do not get full type.

even better Idea , lets jsut stop using acronyms ,

because after all acronyms do not translate in to other languages , nor can they be read by blind text readers ,  accessibility should be for everyone

Mammabee, how is your Betta these days?

CoryLover95 by SBD do you mean Swim Bladder Disease?  If so we need to notify them in the Acronym post as it is not underlining at present and advising people what is meant.  I therefore want to confirm before notification to the Admin

Interesting points. I notice you have put your location as 'uk'...

The danger is that we are going to end up with no words and just acronyms if you carry on! Surely they should only be used for the most common phrases/items we use on a fish keeping forum and leave it at that?

Lunar Jetman- you should shorten your location to just ' OS ' ;)

Then all the techies will get confused.... ;) they'll be asking what version....

We do this a lot in the hobby for ease of discussing things. Not only acronyms but common names. We could run around having to type out Carassius auratus auratus or we could just say...goldfish.

I admire the desire to use words but acronyms and common names are an acceptable part of the hobby. I'm certainly not going to enter every one under the sun but some helpful ones is a nice touch I think.

I think we have just about the right balance at the moment. The odd one or two mighty be added but it should be for the frequently used acronyms but that's about it in my opinion.

Don't you mean: I.A.?
