eagles, we are concerned you took up the challenge then have since gone missing, yet are now talking buffalo wings so still on the subject of food - was it too tough for you in the end?  You will see we have been asking after you...

I'm glad that MTS was added!  It needs fixing though:

"Snail: Malaysian Trumpet Snail or IdeaDisorder: Multiple Tank Syndrome"
Or possibly "Obsession: Multiple Tank Syndrome" :p

Another suggestion for the Acronyms database:- BN = Bristlenose Plec

Nope.

There are so many acronyms in this hobby (all of them too I guess).

Well, to be honest, it isn't restricted to fish or aquarists.  The disease has a more scientific name, but not many folks use it.  Kind of like "Lou Gehrig's disease" - its actually Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (or ALS), and it was a known disease (although quite rare) before he developed it.  But, that's the name that most US folks know it as - rather than the more scientific name.  With fish disease, we see it repeatedly in one species, and then find out that other species get it too, but its already stuck on that one, and so it gets a bad rep.

My neon tetras have been quite hardy, despite their current reputation.

Hi tcamos, can you add this one in please:

Mammabee, how is your Betta these days?

CoryLover95 by SBD do you mean Swim Bladder Disease?  If so we need to notify them in the Acronym post as it is not underlining at present and advising people what is meant.  I therefore want to confirm before notification to the Admin

Thanks I will notify tcamos to add it to the list of mouse overs.

If you need to notify him of anything else the Acronyms post is here.

Sure, I will add that one.

i have an idea, how about , the first time you use an acronym in a topic , you type it out in full , like practical fishkeeping(PFK_) and then in brackets place the acronym beside it ,

after all that is the grammatically correct way of writing , and makes so much more sense.  that way if you want to be lazy from then on you can , however , all this reliance on acronyms ,  makes the live chat sessions a absolute nightmare as people rely upon them , i do not know how it is for people with their iphones but the majority of us , do not pay by the letter .

more words , Less lazy , (MWLL) think we shoud all reply that when we do not get full type.

even better Idea , lets jsut stop using acronyms ,

because after all acronyms do not translate in to other languages , nor can they be read by blind text readers ,  accessibility should be for everyone

There are certain acronyms that are used so frequently in this hobby (and in most walks of life) that the acronym actually becomes the name.  Take "SCUBA" for example, does ANYONE actually use the full name?

The problem is that while most people know what "SCUBA" means without explaining it first, terms like AOB or NOB are far less known to anyone unfamiliar with the nitrogen cycle in a fish tank.  Is it lazy to type AOB, instead of ammonia oxidizing bacteria? Perhaps.  It can get a bit time consuming for someone trying to offer help to a bunch of folks with questions without spending your whole day typing.

Besides, after all this is the internet; and we all know that proper grammar, punctuation and capitalization aren't always used.

BTW, Chad, we should add AOB and NOB to the list.
