My zebra danio definitely had small, retractable barbells. They only deployed them when they were picking through the substrate, except for the dominant and ne which always had them out.

Most danios have barbels. One of the most dramatic ways of seeing them is when danios (for instance, small zebra danios) are looked at from above, while being in a plastic bucket. The barbels appear huge. And then, some species actually have big ones.
