I went to pick up my son from preschool this afternoon and they had gotten a fish tank  It was one of those aquaview 1 gallons so I'm thinking betta right? Wrong

This one gallon tank has a blue gourami, an irredescent shark, and this massive tadpole :X I mentioned how big they get and didn't get a heck of a lot as far as a response :(

So, I'm now at home and thinking about it and I realized that for one, I'm going to have to look at this everyday when I drop off and pick up my little boy. And two, he's going to be looking at it too and he's a smart kid. He shouldn't have to watch animal abuse as part of his curriculum

I decided to go ahead and call the director and express my concerns. She was wonderful. I told her that I would be happy to make a trade with them as I have many many bettas that would love that tank. I also said that I would be happy to help them set up a larger tank if they really wanted the gourami or were set on a community  She thought the first option was a great idea.

So, I'll throw that gourami in my ever increasing mismash of a 29 gal :S and I suppose the shark can go in the 150. Obviously still not ideal, but better then a 1 gallon. I just wish stores would quit selling giant fish :sly:

Just wanted to share with some people who would actually understand

Whooo.....glad you caught that! Of course, glad you are tough enough to do the calling to the director as well....good work Stephi!

Irredescent shark in a one gallon....

Good job, babe. I knew you'd take care of in the best way possible. ;)

well done sorrell

its also good that the director listened to your concerns and decided to do a trade.

Aww man, that's awful :( but great that you sorted it out. :) I don't know how a schoo lcould be so irresponsible as to practically encourage animal abuse. :/

im sure the people thought "oh brother" but you really did the right thing..my first time around i got suckered into buying fish that were way to big for my tank..still have my balas but theyre ok for now..

i agree people buy all these big fish before they know how big theyll get and the people at the store only encourage it

Great job! :D And how nice of you to offer them a betta. Have you already picked one out?

Good job and congrats for having the courage to call up the director!

It's amazing how irresponsible some fish stores are. There's one near my house that used to be great. I hadn't been there for a while so I went in last Saturday and found out it had changed hands and were now keeping bettas in plastic drinking cups. I went up to the woman and asked her random betta questions, posing as a newbie betta owner. When I asked how often I needed to change the water she answered, "Oh, scrape your finger across the side of the cup and if your finger comes out dirty, change the water. Or if it starts to smell." :grr: I left, and needless to say, I don't plan on going back.

Anyway, good work Sorrell! :D
