A New Salt Voyage

You beat me to it HG. I was reading this and then went outside for a fag and forgot all about it.
Still, looks like youve covered everything so I'll leave to it. Lol

When you are looking at your fish you need to think which order you want to add them to control any aggression

FOWLRs can be a bit plain with 3 x 39W over the tank and some good postioning you can add a few LPS and softies to add some nice colour

One thing to remember with marines is reaserch everytrhing before you put it in the tank and impulse buying is bad!! if you see something you like in a shop reserve it then reaserch it then pick it up a week later ;)

exciting things happening today!!! well, not really.. my RO unit, koralias and sand arrived!!! still no tank to put it all in tho :( but atleats I can get this RO unit up and running.

on the subject of sand, someone on here said I'd need 10kg for my tank, so thats what I bought.. but from the size of the bucket i'd guess that i'm gunna need another couple of buckets for a ecent layer all over!

So where are the photos :good:

10k was never going to be eough unless you wanted just a very thin covering - I Put 30 k in my five footer for just a thin layer, but have now topped it up to about 40K

the baby play gym isn't for the tank btw.. tho I wonder if clown fish would like to play with it..

Still waiting for a phone call to arrange delivery of the most exciting goody..the tank!!

That was me sorry wasn't trying to mislead you, but I have only used 10kg in mine, which I think is enough and both our tanks have a footprint of 900 square inches. In fact me buying 20kg was the subject of quite a bit of humour in my LFS. The suggestion to me was the thinnest covering I could get away with, but opinion would seem to differ greatly.

ah I see, thanks for clearing that up george! Maybe I'll see if I can get away with the one bucket before I buy another then!

I would stick with 20Kg tbh if you have wrasse conches or nassarius snails they need a little depth to bury themselves and sand is a pain to add at the start would not fancy trying it in an established tank ;)

I have a plan up my sleeve for adding sand.. pour it down a gravel cleaner!! Whether it'll work or not, I'm not too sure lol

I use an old piece of 2" plumbing works very well still get some debris from it but not to bad I then add a sponge filter to remove particle from the water column usually clear in 3 to 4 days
