A Green Dragon Type Fish

I don't beleive that mandarins should be kept in captivity. There are a few aquarists that have success but the majority wont last a couple of weeks. The population of these fish in the wild is also very low as they can not reproduce as fast as other fish. Fish shops these days are just to eager to make a quick buck regardless of the fish welfare.

So did you ever go back to the store to find out exactly what is was??

I went back and i described it to them and the marine specialists were not in, so they don’t know  that sucks and they didn’t have that fish in stock i was looking everywhere  sorry guys! looks like i won’t find out just yet so i wouldn’t stress over it.

The problem with mandarins is their feeding habits, they are always perusing the rockwork for copepods and the like. If you can get one thats already weened to take frozen food such as Brineshrimp and Mysis then you stand a better chance of having the company of this fish for a considerable time. I would love to have a Mandarin but only having a small setup, there simply wouldn't be enough room to sucessfully keep one. I do have a smaller Dragonet namely a Scooter Blenny ( Synchiropus ocellatus) I know its smaller and not as highly coloured but they display the same charactaristics as their larger cousins. I got him when he was already taking frozen foods. I hatch brineshrimp on a daily basis which he really enjoys. So for anyone keeping Dragonets I suggest that you set up a provision to hatch brineshrimp regularly to increase their survival rates.

Yeah I'm thinking they were a little bit generous on the size. There's not really anything else that looks like a mandarin.
