I will be going to school for 11th grade this September and I was thinking that it would be really cool if i could put a small tank in the back of my upper part of my locker. I thought maybe a 1 gallon tank or something like that. A Betta? Rosey Red (bait fish (17 cents))? Something? I think it would be really cool! B)

But i need some help on the airation and lighting :/

Please help....

sounds cool.but r u aloud pets in ure locker and what would u do on the weekends and holidays

I wouldn't recommend keeping fish in a locker. I don't know about your school but, at mine, kids used to ram other kids up against lockers, slam the doors shut, etc. All the vibrations would stress the fish out, IMO. :/

Nope my school is small..I live in the boonies...
My class size is 80 pleople....llol
Very small...I live in the country

i would say a week b4 skool.but the fish in an dark box.so he can get uset 2 it

Also I looked in the student hand book and it didnt say anything about not being able to own one.

no..its not 50 people in one class..ie.english
its 80 people in 11th grade

I don't know...I would not reccommend a rosy-they usually don't live very long anyways (type of goldfish so they do need their space)- a betta would be better. But don't you think a betta (or any fish for that matter) would be happier at your house? In a locker there is no access to an outlet, so if you wanted to have light-it would have to be battery powered. It could go with out the light (as some does come through the cracks in the door) but it would be subject to temperature change from extreme summer heat to freezing winter cold. (Since I have never heard of a battery powered heater as of yet)
Then you must be care full not to bump the 'tank' so I guess you were not going to use the upper shelf for any thing else like gloves/books
and not to mention water changes every week... and chemicals in your locker to make the water safe-unless you were going to bring pretreated water from home...

My friend who was into fish big time wanted to do it, then ended up not because of the above list he thought of.

A locker is NO place for a fish. Lets see, it will get interaction with you about 10 seconds maybe twice a day? As Cutechic said, the vibrations would not be good for the fish. I don't care what kind of vents the locker has, it's not going to get the proper lighting, fish are used to and require 8-12 hours of strong lighting a day to be healthy. There would be no way to have a filter (no power to run air pump). Water changes would be nothing short of a pain in the butt, and with a non filtered 1 gallon tank you would need to do it every other day.

Bad idea any way you look at it IMO.

Maybe you could ask your teacher if you could set up a small tank in class if you have sole responsibility for feeding and cleaning (so 50 kids aren't feeding it each day, haha).

i wouldnt man b/c the slamming of the locker doors would kill the fish. cute chick has a good point.

btw i have 24 ppl in my class and they all slam there lockers!!!!!!!

insted get a 125 gal to put in ur house that would be kool.
