90L Tank

Any reason?

Just wanted to make sure it was not some funky shape that would restrict number of fish. It looks good to me. I would feel comfortable adding about 10 small fish to that tank. I do agree with upping that Tiger Barb number to 9. You could add some Green Tiger Barbs or another color morph, for variety. A small shoal of 6 smaller species cories would be nice. You would be pretty maxed out and would have to be sure to do your 20% water changes each week. I don't remember if you had plants, but I would add some.

Did someone mention my name?! :D

You already have a very colourful tank, with tiger barbs in there, you could try some of the other colours that they come in as i guess you got the standard, ones. The orange albinos and greens do mix well with the regular Tigers so that could be a path you can take.

I had 18 in a 90 litre tank, species only, with no other fish but the tigers, i felt it was over stocked. They are very greedy little fish and grow quite big, i wouldnt go more than a dozen and if you really like them then i would consider returning the penguins and upping the Tigers to 10 or 12. returning the penguins will free up some space for you.

The bottom of the tank is pretty empty, so you could look at some kuhli loaches / small corydoras, but i would say a max count of 6 bottom feeding fish, so one or the other.

You could also consider a couple of apple snails for something interesting / different.

Hope that helps

Oh, as for raising the number of Tigers to reduce agression to other fish, im not so sure it helps, from my experiences anyway.

Thanks Tizer,

I can see what you mean by greedy. Evreytime i approach the tank they swim up to the corner. At the moment they don't pick on the other fish but i'm guessing this could just be because there young?

so would this possibly be ok:

8 neon tetras(already in the tank)
5 penguin tetras(already in the tank)
7/8 Tiger barbs add 2/3 more
and then some kuhli loaches or corydoras??

Any ideas on that?

sounds ok, but like i said, free up some space by returning the p tetras as you are on the stocking limit in my eyes

and only get corys / kuhlis if u have a sand substrate, they like to snuffle around in it for food

Barb218 I have the same tank as you. I happily kept black ruby barbs, bleeding heart tetras and corys in it. Admittedly the black rubys are less aggressive than tigers, but I also had a ruby shark in the tank. :hyper:

I also had fine gravel at the time. Admittedly now, I have changed to sand as I am about to restock my tank from scratch with new substrate, plants etc but one definate addition to my aquarium will be corys. They are just the sweetest little things. In the past I have had corydoras sterbai- they have a beautiful orange on their fins, so I will probably stick to them, although they are a little more expensive than some others. I've even manage to convince the parents to getting some and they now have 7 (6 of their own and the last surviving one from my tank) who are all happily rummaging around the sand together and possibly spawning as are their guppies.

Thanks :)

So i have a bit of a problem now because i've got gravel substrate.:(

depends how competent you are :)

chuck the sand in a bucket, fill with water, swirl it around with your hand, drain off water.

repeat the process above until the water you are draining off runs clean, the sand will be nice and clean then.

Then simply drain your tank water into another bucket until you have an inch left in the bottom, net your fish, put them in the bucket.

If you got an exernal filter no, worries, if internal then remove it and also put into the bucket, dont worry about powering it, your fish will be alright for 30 mins

i then used a dust pan to scoop out old sand/gravel, then drain off the rest of the water. give the tank a rinse, chuck in the new sand, fill with water and bring up to temp (use a kettle if you need to boil some hot water to warm it up) then retun your fish and job done.

but like i said, its really dont to how competent/confident you are :)

Looks like i've got a job to do in the next week or so then:)
