Back to an aquarium. I loved this paludarium but its problems outweighed my enjoyment of keeping it. After the last Oto passed I started to think that its time was coming to an end. When I started to pull it apart the tank became brown. At least 1+ inch of mulm was behind the rock wall and quite a few dead snails. Another thread I made yesterday also showed large yellow/orange patches on the lava rock which I suspect was bacteria deprived of oxygen/water movement. Surprisingly I never found the body/skeleton of the missing Otocinclus. The expanded foam walls also came off pretty easily. Roots from the peace lily and fern had actually grown deep into it allowing water to gather in cracks. This also caused a coating of a fine white powder which I suspect was mold to flourish, which when performing WC's would leech onto the water surface. My own design was the main cause of this paludarium to fail, which I have learned from. I have disinfected the tank heavily. As a first try at a paludarium I would say it turned out decently well .
