5Ft Seabray Dolphin Tank With Sa/ca Cichlids

Is the fish (in your sig) with yellopw fins the port acara? Pics of him too whilst your at it! :fun:

Yes it is, he's a moody sod...I had to feed them again to get him out of his dark cave...

Best priced fish I ever bought, cost me £1.80

Looking at the tank shots I am thinking I really want more wood and a lot less rock/slate...

It might be some way off yet though as I can't seem to find any good root systems to put in there...I really want roots running the length of the rock that's currently there...

What do you all think? More roots less rocks?

I like the rock formation, looks really good. Is it all silicolned together?

Some similar sized pieces of that bogwood would look great as well as/ or some roots I think yeah

The port acara likes the rock formation too, he is trying to keep it all to himself at the mo...the geo's are wearing him down though

It's not siliconed, I just carefully placed to be fairly solid...I wouldn't be able to fit it all in the tank in one lump (or lift it for that matter :))

If you look carefully you can see the edges of the perspex sheets sitting against the glass, I put those in so I could butt the rocks against the sides for good support without getting all depressed about scratching the tank :)

I see it now you mention it, what a great idea!! I may do something like that if we ever find another tank for the turtles. I have to just put rock ontop of rock to build them a basking area and it takes up so much room as they are so big now the top if half a patio slab!!!

The babies are going to love it in there :good:

Half a slab, that's massive...sound like you need to make a support from wood to me, so that you don't lose too much tank water volume...a shelf with 3 legs maybe?

I hope they love it too, that's the idea

The rescape was for them, if they weren't coming it wouldn't have happened :)

Believe it or not I got him from HB Aquatics, he was in their lower assorted American cichlid tank which faces the marine rocks/corals, I got him when he was just under 2"

It is well worth a visit from time to time, sometimes they get some good stock in that doesn't cost a bomb...

I was just looking through my old pics of fish and had to post before and after pics (6 month gap) of the oldest geo and the port acara :)

Can't wait! And don't worry, I'll PM when they're safe and sound

Pics will have to wait until I get some free time as I am working from home on Friday, DSLR photos take a while to process properly...maybe by lunchtime ;)

Yay! I can't wait either! Will be posting some pics as soon as they are settled. Won't bother them with a camera in their face straight after they have arrived, doubt they'd appreciate it!

I love your fishies Mark, my Geo is getting bigger now but not showing much colour yet. He's pretty much a metallic gold all over with a slight hint of red in his dorsal and some faint stripes.
Your Port Acara is a stunner. It's nice as well that you don't see many people keeping them, so a certain rarity to him.
