Hey guys! I got a 39 gallon aquarium off of a second-hand site two days ago, and once I set it up, (silly me!) I noticed that there was extra silicone around all four of the bottom corners, as well as some extra on the top corners. It looks like some of the top silicone inside the tank is cracked or something, though I felt it, and it still feels like it's holding it's own, and the bottom left corner on the outside of the tank has the black trim slightly protruding.

It's been set up for two days now, an no leaks or water so far....

The black trim around this extra silicone is protruding.... My 17 gallon is kind of like that too, and has been holding for 5 years.... so.... And I don't think it's a repair job, because who would pull the black trim off of the tank to fix the silicone?

Extra silicone near where the black trim is protruding:

Other corner of the tank, a little less silicone than the other corner...

Top of the tank, where the silicone looks and feels "cracked"....

Sorry, will get the rest of the pics on later.... I have to leave for school.... :S

Thanks in advance!

I vote for the previous owner trying to either stop a leak or be double sure that the tank would not leak. I've never seen silicone on the outside of the tank. Seems kinda odd to me. I can't tell be the photos... there is silicone on the inside of the tank right?

Yup, there is silicone inside - it's perfectly fine on the inside. I contacted the previous owner, and they said that it had never leaked before - it was like that when they bought it.
