330L Tank Journal

hahaha true but then i thought they ate them to?

one thing i would really like is to breed my torpedo's but i herd its impossible to breed them in captivity :(

okay forgot to post earlier i have finished painting the lid on the inside :) leaving it to cure and air for the week and i shall put it on we are going to use the same colour on the outside as the inside but going to wait till i get paid to do that :) i shall get pictures this weekend when i go back down to put it on :)

okay not posted on here recently but i have had a few changes to my stocking i am now the proud owner of 20 Cory's :) a mix of Green and Orange Laser Cory's cost me an arm and a leg but they are so worth it, cheeky little buggers managed to squish a couple when moving the slate around but they survived made them go skits for bait and then they calmed down they also love eating my wood :) looks so cool

I also got some nice slate to make a cave with stuck that in at the back and moved the wood slightly so it fits in a tad using one of the slate/rock pieces to hold it down rather than sand,

sadly tho i lost 2 torpedos barbs :( during a water change they swam them selves behind the slate cave and when i put the water in i guess the pressure just got to them. and annoyingly my water has gone cloudy again i did presume its bacteria bloom as it happened on wens day last week with nothing additional added to tank but i don't know altho its even more cloudy now because I've messed the sand up a bit with me rescaping

also had a major disaster over the weekend since adding the 20 cory's i think my filter has just gone #136### and i am having Nitrite spike did go beyond 5ppm i think i got it back to around 5ppm and its getting lower so no fish died from that altho my torpedos barb's did skim along the top for a while this morning while i changed the water, i do have a post in the emergency section if you want to give me some help there :)

i shall update with pictures later once they are uploaded

5ppm on nitrite? #92###, a few 95% water changes to sort that then, i would guess the into of the corys did that. Careful how much you feed for a few days. Cant say im suprised about the red lines, i've heard they dont enjoy new tank setups, much line neons.

thnx done and water is okay i just hope my bacteria hasn't stopped or died tank is now perfect and all results are 0 except nitrate witch is 20ppm :) thank you tizer for your help again :D il get pics of stuff this weekend

But back to the journal and i shall post pictures of my lid and how i built it for people to look at and maybe take ideas :)
but overall i am very happy with how it has turned out and luckily the paint is water proof :) and gave a very nice smooth finish

Picture showing the fininshed lid, i am leaving the outside of the lid for a while still undecided on what colour I love the Mat black so i may go for that again, any opinions?

I then screwed in these blocks i needed these to raise up the reflectors for two reasons, main one was to stop the screw going through the whole wood i ran out of small screws and only had larger ones left, and to prevent the heat from reflector melting or burning the paint/wood as much, wether it will or not i don't know just guessing :) also fitted the plastic clips in place to hold the lights

as the Light unit i have is water proof i thought i shall hide it inside the lid and hide the cables i thought i did a good job with this, very pleased with myself :)

Shows how i pined the cables to the lid simple and cheep way of doing this just makes it a bit neater

for the reflectors they where actually to long in the end so i overlapped them and drilled a hole so screw the middle part down with and attached the lights, then used some aqua sealent to stick the blue Moon lighting to the support beam in the middle trying not to make a mess of that and to put it as central as i can :)

Overall i am impressed at how it has turned out and i hope you find this all useful :)
Any Questions please fell free to ask

Now onto the fish i went out and got some Slate for the fish and my plec is loving it as you can see here :) altho i think i may go out at some point and get some more smaller bits to raise it up a tad more give him more room

and a few of my cory's sorry for the cloudy ness of the water this has now gone since the 85-95% water change today :) and i hope it stays that way till the weekend when i can get a decent pic of them and maybe a video :D

But a Run down of my stocking now 19 Cory's, 2 Torpedo barbs, the two that i originally had, the 6 i bought all sufficed to poor water conditions a very good learning cure for me and hopefully someone will read this and won't make the same mistake, all 4 Angels severed and are looking good :), and the plec dose his best to sleep ( the cory's love to play with him especially who can stay under him the longest :hyper: its quite funny watching them lol.

thank you all for reading this, any comments are appreciated opinions and criticism also :)

Lovely tank (very envious of that wood...), and an enjoyable journal to read through. Love the cories too, are they Gold Lasers?

Sorry to hear about the Denison's Barbs.

AmazonFTW

(Also, can't wait to see what the tank looks like with some greenery and when it's full stocked - I'm sure it'll look brilliant)

Almost a shame to put plants in. Has a desert theme at the moment.

thnx guys for the comment dw i won't overload with plants, altho ironically i did get plants this weekend, 4 anibus and 2 crypto :) just to see what they look like and stuff :) looking at getting a few more crypto tho tbh :) if my current ones take well, pictures to follow :), no more deaths to my cory's and my nitrite has stabilised i hope :)

Okay what you all been waiting for is picture updates, hope you enjoy :)

Sadly i had nothing around the house other than cable ties to tie the plants down with :)

sorry and my cory's are a mix of green and orange laser cory's :)

okay just a quick question regarding my tank i was expecting a drop in nitrate but wasn't expecting this such of a drop :) after on week with the amount of plants i have in my tank my nitrate is 0, and my tap water is around 40 to 60ppm? just to check is this normal given i have not allot of plants? and yes i did shake the bottle allot and tested 3 times and all came out 0 :) across the bored except Ph which was 7.4 :D

the plants may well've done it... unless the GF has put something in like nitrazorb? either way its wierd...
