2024 NFL Discussion

I just hope that Nick Chubb is able to start the season for the Browns. He could easily be said to be the main player on offense. Right now he is still listed as PUP (Physically Unable to Perform). At least he is back on the active roster and, being declared as PUP, there is no mandatory time he has to stay out. He just needs to pass a physical.

Still up in the air is which quarterback will start for the Patriots. 22 year old rookie Drake Maye or Jacoby Brissette. Maye appears to be playing better than Brissette. But they may not want to risk Maye getting hurt as the offensive line for the Pats needs much improvement.

Season starts this coming Thursday, 9/5/24, with the Ravens and Chiefs.

I can't seem to be able to find announcement as to who will start for the Browns at QB. The options are Watson, Winston, Huntly and Robinson.

Almost started a thread for college football but I doubt that there are many that follow to make it worth if. Still I have to mention a college game. Extreme and major upset just ended. #5 ranked Notre Dame just lost by 2 to Northern Iowa. MAN! N-Iowa played the game of their lives.

I don't like the NFL game, but I love to annoy people by claiming to love the worst team in the league, and acting like I think they'll win the super bowl. Who should I choose this year?

Have to admit that I don't get this... Why would this annoy me as I would just figure that you liked a team that isn't very good. Sorry but your post just strikes me as nonsense as it is something that a troll would post and I know that you are not a troll. :dunno:

People, especially kids, get passionate about knowing their sport. I have found that when I'm asked my team, if I say I dislike NFL football, they can act insulted. But if you say you like an awful team, they get to feel superior and sorry for you, and they leave you alone. For years, I could trust Arizona, then Cleveland, but I think they're good now.

So pre-season, who do you think will be the worst?

I sort of get what you say but not totally. I mean, if you don't like the NFL, just say so and who cares what others think. Your opinion is just as valid as one that is hardcore NFL. Just say what you actually think and the heck what others think. At least you will get real feedback instead of feedback based on false information.

I’d hate to have to ban a moderator for trolling. JK ;)

LOL! The troll thing was meant as a joke but still just say what you really think instead of instigating negatives. ;)

I in no way mean that @GaryE is actually doing such but saying things that are just to promote discussion is never a good thing especially when such could cause a feeling of insult toward others.

It's an interesting reaction I didn't expect. I come from hockey world, and know that game really well. Where I live, there are a few NFL fanatics, and NFL gambling fanatics. In the High School, maybe 10% of the kids cared about American football, so I picked my rebuilding team of the year and claimed to love it, so I could talk with them but not have to be bothered learning useless to me info. If they asked about the Chiefs and I said I loved the whatevers, I was in the conversation. I had a foot in the door. I wasn't rejecting their passion for a game.

I find many adults similar. I go to a social gathering and am asked about an NFL team. If I say I don't like the game, I'm a snob. If I say I like the woeful whatevers, I'm a sad case not worth discussing with, but at least a fan. Sometimes, it leads to funny conversations. I can only name about 3 or 4 NFL players, but I can skate out of a serious talk.

If we had a hockey thread, I'd get banned, because there, we're talking religion!

A lot of people have a lot of themselves tied up in team loyalties. It's a lot of how they identify themselves, and they get genuinely hostile and see not liking their team as insulting. It's part of them. If you like their rival, they can get weird. But if you like the punching bag team with zero hope, hey, everyone can talk to a harmless fool.
