OK, a nice dilemma! As as my large tank listed below, I;ve got 2 spare tanks
Tank 1 = 9g, a heater, and a filter
Tank 2 = About 17g, a heater, a filter, and a light, and is matured.

I was thinking of dividing tank one into two, and tank number two into 4 and keeping male bettas, but it seems a bit of a waste.

What would other people do? Give me some ideas guys!!!

It wouldn't be a waste! But I am decidedly betta biased and afflicted with MBS (Multiple Betta Syndrome), so I'm not really in control of what I say. It's the disease talking. :S :S

Seriously, for the 17g, you could do something small, like a species tank of the smaller rasboras or something on that lines. Whatever you want, I'm jealous, two empty tanks. :p

Yeah I know its not a waste..but having 2 tanks...!! :D yeah it is a nice situation!! I jthought the larger tank would possibly be nice with the bettas, split into 4 as the light would be on them, and they'd have a reasonable amount of space, and so flaring would look great!!

However, are most fish ok without light (the second tank!) ???

Could maybe use one of them as a hospital tank for ure main tank, any ill fish can just be transferred to it and treated, just a suggestion ;)

That is a sensible option Andy, but not the exciting one! Will bear in mind though...thanks.

Would a black red tailed shark and a couple of hardy fish work in the larger tank??

I would divide the 9 gallon for 2 bettas and make the 17 gallon a cory tank with about 10 smallish corys (ones that only get to about 2") and black sand (they like dark substrate and the black really shows them off). I am partial to corys though and really want a cory tank.
