A pond, hmmmm hubby said I'd move on to a pond next but says he won't dig it for me! What size pond would be required for these guys then? Cheese Specialist the chinese red are common goldfish shape too.

Its hard to believe that they will outgrow the tank as they seem to have so much room, but I hear what you are all saying and will sort it out ASAP. Have told son and he's not too worried about them going to a pond where they can swim more etc. but he's got his heart set on a black moor which is what he started off with. Any chance one of these would be ok? or do they get as big :/

Wouldn't take much to dig a small pond out, then put a liner in,all you will need then is a pump.

Your son would love it

Try and give them 200-300 gallons minimum, this is quiet small in pond terms (looks alot smaller than you expect). Make sure it is atleast 24" deep to ensure they can survive winter easily to.

A Black Moor would be fine in that size tank for quiet a few years, they are slow growing fish with a low activity level but be sure to have good filtration on the tank to cope with the fishes large waste load. :)

ok some good ideas there, but hubby doesn't like the idea of a pond :/ but I'll take him round the aquatic shop at the weekend and we'll see just how big we need to make one for them. If not then we'll have to rely on his Uncle's pond if he's got room!

I was looking at some ponds on the internet and some of them are only 150 litres which are surely no better than the 96 litre tank I have. Is it the depth they need or the space of a pond to swim around in?

My son will be pleased about the Black Moor anyway :fun:

sorry for hijacking the thread from original poster btw

Your pond does need to have some depth, at least 18" and preferable 24" so they can over winter when the weather gets cold. It should always be longer than and wider than it is deep to allow swimming room for the fish, the more surface area the better really. :)

is this still my post?

well anyway, thax for the replys, i dont want to hurt the little guys so i wont get them.

the axolotls (mexican walking fish) are preety cool so ill get one of them

he won't dig it for me!

build a raised one either using a liner or a preformed ,brick or timber surround ,kiddie safe and no digging :kana:

Hope you find something good for your tank Dwarf_Dude and sorry again for hijacking your thread

Wow Bribones! that pond is great  Was thinking the same thing myself about a raised one

Hubby might be coming round to the idea, but says its too late to do one now before winter as its getting cool here now. Will drag him along to the shops this weekend

Thanks again for all the replies

Bri its looking really good now

Joby if you need help with your pond just ask

Thanks for the advice from everyone

Hubby point blank refused a pond but his uncle said he has loads of room in his pool and has agreed to take all the fish! He has also just built a pond for his daughter so they might be fighting over them

He says my son can come over whenever he likes to see how they are growing up in their new home. Will be taking them over to him next weekend so my son gets to say goodbye to them over the week

Will miss seeing them chasing their pellets all over the tank but really pleased they get to grow up and live a healthy life
