10g Mini Reef

the good ones are like 50 dollars (stream (propellar) pumps) but the traditional ones (impellar) can be a lot cheaper but the flow is not as nature like as the propellar pumps and use double the electricity to get half the amount of flow. Look into hydor koralia 1's or 2's if you want a propellar pump or look into maxi-jets if you want an impellar one.

ah thats a good site! i ffind some that are a good price, i dont want to go over bored with lights because if this works out good for me. i will most likly be turning my larger tank into saltwater. this 10g is just to get a feel before i turn my 4foot tank into salt. i saw this "coralife" 24inch ones, heres what it says..

The aqualight is the complete line of compact fluorescent lighting units for your saltwater, reef or freshwater aquariums. The aqualight is a sleek and streamlined fixture, designed to enhance and compliment your aquarium. The compact and low profile style is equipped with a modern aluminum housing and a highly-polished reflector for optimal lighting. It also includes a protective acrylic lens cover and coralife compact fluorescent lamps.36 Watt coralife 50/50 compact fluorescent lamp included.

would this work for the lighting i need?

i'v done some reading and i belive this is the lighting i will be going with ..also when i was in a lfs i was checking out some saltmixs and this guy showed me these bulk bags of it, for only 5 bucks more :hyper:.i still have alot of research to do but im getting pumped to get some corals now :hyper:

most salt companies have small boxes, then big bags, then big buckets. The last is the most bang for your buck.

If you dont really know what you are doing right now, i would suggest getting premixed water from the lfs if they have any. Its much easier to do this when you first start out because you probably dont have a setup for mixing water yet. You dont really have to worry about mixing stuff wrong and since your tank is so small, it shouldnt cost more than like 9 bucks for a fill and a water change. Once everything is up and going, you can try mixing your own water :good: Remember to get a gallon of distilled or RO water along with everything else for top offs too.

yeah thats what i was planning on doing, at the start then once thinks have started going im going to try the mixing my self. i'v been doing reseach like crazy, i think i should be ready to start buying LR and such in about a month still as i feel i need to look more into every thing. plus i gotta buy my lights, and wait for them to be shipped, then i will be in action (H), if my lfs dosnt sell premixed water i will have to wait a bit long to get every thing just to i can get the salt levels right. my town isnt very good for anythin anything saltwater only one store has salt water stuff.

 err the store dosnt sell pre-mixed water, i havnt done any reseach on mixing as i thought they sold it  how you do guys mix, i was hoping to get some LR from the store this weekend, then ordering some more from tampabay next week. I also think im going to get another powerhead, this one does 200 gallons an hour, but i dont think it moves aound the water enough? or is it just overkill to get another one? also around Xmas im going to turn by 4foot tank into salty reef, but i am going to be buillding it into the wall, how much room should i left for the lights, as i know they can get pretty hot.

thanks cj

what kind of corals did you want again? Some leathers apreciate medium-high flow, zoas and mushrooms are probably uncaring, lps like low-medium flow, sps like REALLY high flow.

(Hammer) ?
(frogspawn) Euphyllia paradivisa
(zoo's)Zoanthus sp
(torch coral) Euphyllia glabrescens

ah, the tentacly species. These are good with low-medium flow. Make sure they are spaced well apart from other corals cause they are pretty aggressive (they cant move though)
