    Put your plants in clay pots filled with aquatic soil. That should solve the root problem. You could have a layer of aquatic soil then sand.

    Once in a Great while i'll get a pocket they miss. Its a good preventitive medicine. It has to take all of what..a minute and a half? I'll take that over a week of removing the haze in the water any days. Like they say, and ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

    You may get more activity out of you raphael if you have more than one. They like groups of their own kind.

    Plants with large root systems will help, but not all of the tank.. So long as you have an eel maybe get another. Remember sand can and does drift into deeper piles depending on your circulation.

    I also have plants and I need to stirr. AS A PRECAUTION I stir daily. Every few days would be ok. I really would go with cory cats. They cover a lot more ground than just an eel.

    Mystery snails keep dying

    When you say food do you mean algae? Mystery snails(most of the time its not a mystery and a variety of apple snails)aren't well know fo eating algae. Try feeding it lettuce or cucumber. In short, they might be starving.

    Great tip on the cucumber!! Bloodworms ALWAYS bring my spotter R out. try that. Raphael's are gluttons. Once you find there favorite food you should have no problem getting him to come out for a feeding/pic.

    E cats are to slow to eat anything but food from the bottom. Sorry, but it looks nothing like a channel cat. More like a big sausage with a mouth and fins. The fish is nocturnal and given a proper hiding spot, you would be lucky to just see it eat. It will on very rare occasion go to swim around...

    My tanks are over filtered with a power head hidden in some plants to stir any crap up and it then drifts to a filter, no more problem.

    pvc pipes

    Home depot has the best prices on pvc. I bought a bunch of 8 inch t's and angled t's for about four dollars a piece. Drain pipe is also good and its always black to make it darker for them.

    Turn it to the high 80's, ick cant candle the heat.Imo, you should do a massive water change after the problem is corrected.Do you use feeders for your fish? if so that may be the source for your ich. Some lfs have really dirty feeder tanks. Do you have a hospital tank?
