My peppered cory cats hav laid the most ammount of eggs in my tank!!!!

Anybody know how to hatch them or just anything rly? I have a little net thingy i bought to keep them safe but how do I move the sticky eggs? what do I feed the fry? OH GOD I DONT WANNA BE A DADDY!!!!

Hi Jae1525 :)

The easiest and, in the long run best way to deal with this is to move the other fish out of that tank. If you leave them, they will eat the eggs. You could move the eggs elsewhere, but that will mean a risk of damage to them, and you will still need to set up another tank. Forget about the net; they only work for the larger livebearer fry.

What I would do, is to clear that tank and hatch and raise the fry right in there. It would be large enough to do it. You can remove the filter and everything else including the gravel. It's much easier to keep these little fry in a bare bottom tank because you can more easily keep it clean, something that is very important with corys.

Add an airstone to give the eggs good water circulation over them, which will prevent them from developing fungus. You could add methylene blue at the rate of one drop per gallon too, although this is not necessary. Good water movement is more important.

They will hatch in around 4 days and you can begin feeding them after 24 hours. Liquifry is a good starter food since it will sink to the bottom.

Good luck! You will love these little guys. :D

Couldn't he use a tank divider? That would solve the relocation problem and reduce shock to the fish due to moving them. B)

Hi daddyo72 :)

I don't really know, since I've never had need to use a divider before. Do they get a make a good tight fit that a tiny fry couldn't get through? :dunno:

There would still be the problem of needing additional space to raise the fry though. At some point, either the big fish would have to be moved, or the fry would, which would be risky at best.

Hi Jae1525 :)

Did you act quickly enough to save the eggs? If not, don't worry, there will be more in a few weeks. Next time you can be better prepared for them. :D

You usually need a piece of cloth to make a tight fit. With a divider you can"grow out the fry " by feeding them a lot more often than the parent fish. My bichie...p. sengalus..is on the safe side of a divider. he gets fed twice daily where as the others get fed every 2nd or 3rd day. This should grow his fry out quickly.

You should invest in a breeding net. They're about £5 - £10 and you can move the eggs into that. This way you can hatch them and watch them grow in peace rather than in fear of them all getting eaten :p

Hi daddyo72 :)

It might work for a while, but before they have grown up they will need more space. Even though his tank is not heavily stocked, the fish he does have will be very crowded if moved over to half the space they now enjoy, or even less.

There's more to raising fry from egg laying fish than just feeding them. :D
