Hi everyone!

Today my girlfriend bought me an early birthday present (which is tomorrow :hyper:) which included a 12" long airstone and an air pump ("Silent Air Bubbles Stellar S-10").

I want a wall of bubbles along the back of my tank purely for ornamental's sake and after plugging everything up, the bubbles only exit at the start of the airstone and not along the rest of it. :X

What is causing this? Is it because the air pump isn't powerful enough and not sending enough air in?

The box of the air pump says that it recommends:
  • Depth of water: up to 50"
  • Number of devices: 1
  • Tank Volume: Up to 10G
This pump is what the guy at my LFS recommended to my girlfriend. My tank is 60x35x30 cm's. Thanks in advance!

Do you have an airline on one end or two, ill bet you have the air pump on both ends.do you?

no, of course i don't ;) air pump only allows one connection and via a check valve, its going into the airstone (which only has one end to plug into).

i think the problem has fixed itself. i just turned off the air pump and then turned it back on again. seems to be making bubbles across the entire length of my air stone now hmm...

is there such a thing as having too many bubbles going into a tank? my angels seem to be grouped up into one corner.....

Some air stones have to get wet befor they work. The air could be over stiring the tank and they are going to where there is not curnent. try put about 1/2 inch of rock on top of the air stone makes the bubbles larger and could make them move back out into the tank. Or get a adjustale check regulator and turn it down a bit<< just ideas.

Hi Phorte :)

Your new pump and airstone might be creating too much current in the water which could upset some fish more than others. Fish that naturally live in still water might not do well because of this.

If you need to, you can reduce the amount of air flowing through the airstone by adding a valve to the airline to bleed off some of the extra air. Here's a link with a picture of it:

This one has two valves. To use it, cut your airline and attach one end to each side of the valve. Then, while keeping one side closed tightly, open the other and let enough air escape so that the amount of bubbles are reduced to a level that makes your fish happy.

I believe that there is also a valve made that only has one release valve but I cannot find seem to find one online and I don't recall my lfs carrying them either.
Whichever one you get will work fine. :D

ahhh, superb.

thanks for the prompt and informative responses everyone!! much appreciated
