I am not really sure. I have not heard that theory before. My firemouths tend to get darker and more vibrant when they are p*&&^# off at something. I have also heard that they will get more vibrant during mating, so maybe you're going to hear the pitter patter of little fins soon. :kana:

My advice is always to go with the cichlids and get rid of the rest. No fish can compare witha cichlid. If you think so, well, you're wrong! :alien:

I would like to find a good New World cichlid book or two. Does anyone know some great ones? I want one that will cover everything from breeding to tank decoration and also a great list of the different species w/ pictures.

You could probably get by with a 55 gallon. I would not try anything smaller. If you do get the bigger tank eventually, you should switch the oscar to that tank at that time. For now, a 55 will work though. Be sure to do frequent water changes because Oscars are messy eaters but make up for...

Maybe try flakes or switching brands. Some fish just dont like certain brands. I had an oscar that would not eat pellets because they made him sick. He liked flakes though.

I like to keep moveable stuff in my tank for my Oscar. I think it is amazing to watch them design their own living quarters. This just my opinion though. You may not want to see your Oscar turn into to one of the fab-five.
