well I had spoke too soon when I said my female guppy was fine. she and my algea eater died. :sad:

she was hanging around the top of the tank and not eating, I did some tests on the water and fixed it with some stuff I bought, and did some changes on the water.

I just want to thank every one for helping me with my famale guppy. she is fine and healthy. :cool: :clap:

My female is doing a little better. She isn't hanging around the top as much but it doesn't seem like she is eating much. Any sugestions?

the bulb came with the kit, that is what I don't understand, why would they sell something that is going to cause the water to get too warm. Thanks for the advice!

the new beta tanks that I got have lights on top and it is shooting the temp up to almost 90, how do I keep it down when the plants I am growing need at least 8 hours of light?

I have a 10 gal. tank. I have a breeder net with babies in it, another breeder net with the female in it until she feels better, and two males. In the area where the babies are there is an oily looking film on the water, nowhere else but there. What do I do?

I am having problems naming my male and female guppies. She is an orange color and he is mostly black with bright colors striped on his tail.

yeah I have octagons and I have it to where one side of each is touching so they can see each other better. His name is Big Red and hers is Jasmine.

I went and got my female beta a 2.5 gal. tank just like the males. I haven't gotten anymore females yet because they ran out.

I went and got a test kit and it wasn't too bad. the nitrate was 40 (which it said it was safe), nitrite was 0, hardness was 300 (very hard), alkaline was 300 (high), and the ph was 8.4. I bought some EasyBalance that says it helps clear all of that.

yes I have a filter and it is new, everything but the rocks are new, I cleaned the rock really good before putting them in. Do I need the heater? by the way, no offence taken, I appriciate the help.

the tank in a week old, I clean the water every 2 to 3 days, when it get low, I add more declorinated water, I haven't vacuumed the gravel yet, the temp was around 72 so I put in a heater set at 80, no ammonia (I checked it), i don't know about the nitrite or nitrate, I don't have kits for that...

here is my new beta tank on the left. I put the female in the old tank until I condition them to breed. The new tank is 2.5 gal.

I don't quite put new water in every day, but after cleaning every other day or so it gets low so I will add some every 4 to 5 days. Now I got the amonia kit and there is no amonia in the water. The ph was 7.8 so I am bringing it down a little. the temp is about 80 degrees. Now any thing else...

yes my tank is new and I try to clean the poo and old food out dayly and put new water in. I also do not smell anything in the tank.

for one, I only have the stuff to check the ph and it is 7.6. Where would I get the stuff to check the hardness?
