black emperor tetras -- anyone breeding?

I just lost my only male emperor tetra -- I left the tank uncovered stupidly and the poor guy jumped...I've been distraught. I was so looking forward to breeding them and I have been to every pet store around here and no one has them :( If anyone has any, I'd love to trade or buy a male or a...

    Snail I.D.?

looks like a planorbid specie to me -- common ramshorn

I think my snails might be sick

what have you been feeding them? You might try adding a little bit of Melafix -- it's a general "health tonic" and is not harmful to invertebrates...it has done a good job of perking up my snails in the past. P. Bridgesii need a lot of protein in their diets -- start feeding them shrimp pellets...

I think my snails might be sick

what kind of snails are they? If they are dead then they will smell really sulphuric...there aren't many things that smell worse than a dead snail. What have you been feeding them?

    You have what?

    snail above water level

sometimes they take their sweet time looking for the "perfect" spot lol Don't worry -- they're brand new at this and just following instinct right now. When you finally do find some eggs they will probably be laid randomly in little mishapen clutches -- then after the practice, you'll begin to...

    Oh great...

Most likely "physa acuta" -- do a google with that and see if the photos match up with what you have...and if so, good luck ever getting rid of them! lol (make great loach or puffer snacks though!)

    Apple Eggs :)

All pomacea bridgesiis have eggs that are a light peach to a light pink -- just like in your photos. Other species of apple snail have bright red, orange and even green...though I have never seen any yellow clutches.

    What snails will eat

Oh I didn't see the part about clown loaches lol You'd best go for the physids in this case -- cheap and prolific with thin shells -- good for loaches and puffers.

    What snails will eat

the common "pond snail"(physa acuta) thrive in just about any conditions lol and are quite hard to get rid of -- they would fix your algae problem though. If you're looking for something pretty that eats algae I would go for a planorbid species(common ramshorn) or freshwater neritina snails(if...

    Apple Eggs :)

You may have a larger species of apple snail(such as pomacea canaliculata) which don't usually start mating until at least 2 inches and can get up to 3.5 inches in diameter or so. Are you sure the random baby snails you are finding are actually apple babies and not a form of physa acuta which...

    ivory snales and gold snales

I assume you're referring to pomacea bridgesiis as I haven't seen any other ivory apple snail species. Mine eat Wardley's shrimp pellets, tetramin bottomfeeder tabs, frozen bloodworms, frozen brineshrimp -- they'll eat any sinking fish or reptile food, ones with higher protein and fat are more...

Are shrimp getting enough to eat???

either female bettas or you've got guppies lol -- do they give birth in your tank? try bottom feeder tabs or shrimp pellets -- the fish will pick at them, but can't eat them so fast. Your shrimp should get plenty that way.

    Have Snails, Want Shrimp

I've received shrimp and crays shipped usps priority no problem....it's cheap and easy. I just got baby dwarf crays in from Germany -- that was 6 days of overseas transit and they are happily roaming my tanks right now. It seems a lot of hobbyists are reluctant to ship, but what other way to...

    Have Snails, Want Shrimp

All right, I want shrimp...need shrimp...gotta have 'em, etc lol They don't sell them around here and every site I go to wants an arm and a leg after shipping costs get factored in. I'm looking for pretty much any freshwater dwarf species. I have Apple snail(p. bridgesii) egg clutches...

    Just gave birth

go easy on the liquifry -- it will pollute your tank. I agree with the chopped frozen bloodworm suggestion -- they are pretty inexpensive and most pet stores have them -- if you can't get those, try crushing some freeze dried ones.

    apple snail diet?

It depends on the type of snail -- Pomacea bridgesii will not eat your plant Pomacea canaliculata will devour it, plus will get to at least baseball size.
