Spotted a few eggs on the opening flap on our tank yesturday (about 10) and figured it was first time breeding problems (so few eggs)

But i've just though to have a better look and low and behold we have a big egg 'sausage' at the bag of the hood...

the only problem is their proximity to the lights - they aren't that wet... so i have turned them off so as not to dry the eggs out :)

I'll bung up photos later as I'm bunny watching at the moment! - Hey! get off the power cable! (only jokeing - its out of their way)

here are the first ones i spotted...

Breeding so small? I have a 2.5" Apple and several between .5" and 1.5" I just got two weeks ago. I wasn't expecting any reproduction for a while but it looks like I might have some sooner than I think. I already have a lot of baby snails from some anonymous parent that I can't explain and they've moved even more mysteriously to my 10 gallon tank too.

Even though I know how they reproduce and what to look for, it's still confusing when they pull the act off on you without your knowing then pop up in places they shouldn't be capable of.

ok folks - how long to the eggs take to hatch??
2-3 weeks is average, they may hatch as early as 1 week or as late as 4 weeks depending on temperature.

You may have a larger species of apple snail(such as pomacea canaliculata) which don't usually start mating until at least 2 inches and can get up to 3.5 inches in diameter or so. Are you sure the random baby snails you are finding are actually apple babies and not a form of physa acuta which reproduce asexually and often overrun tanks?
Do your apple snails eat live plants? If so, you almost certainly have P. Canaliculata apple snails.

the first lot have been in there a week and i was wondering if they had gone bad.

I was expecting yellow/orange eggs... Ours are pink - is that ok?

All pomacea bridgesiis have eggs that are a light peach to a light pink -- just like in your photos. Other species of apple snail have bright red, orange and even green...though I have never seen any yellow clutches.

Actually, this brings up a possible answer to some tiny snails I've suddenly gained.

The original question is difficult as I definitely have 8 bridgesii which are too new to be the parents of any snails in my tank and none have so far shown interest in breeding. The Golden Apple is probably a canaliculata as I can't keep it in a planted tank without it eating them. I have a new black mystery in a quarantine tank with plants and all it's done is climb over the stems and hasn't taken a bite (another bridgesii). The Golden 's not the parent though as I have only recently seen these smaller snails and it's been in there for at least 6 months and was large enough to have been producing babies if it was the mother.

There are also MTS in the sand but these definitely aren't MTS though I did get a Ramshorn and some truly mysterious snails with them when I went to an LFS some months back. There are two snails that are possible parents. One I believe is a common pond snail but the other I don't know. I'll try to get some pictures of them and maybe they can be identified.

Right now all the tiny snails I have are much too small to identify as anything beyond a snail.
