fin rot or something on my molly

One of my balloon mollies seems to have some fin rot, but also very small white bumps on its fins. It spends a lot of time on the bottom of the tank. Ammonia and nitrite read 0. I have moved it to a quarintine tank and am using a fish antibiotic. What else should I do for it, and what could the...

    banboo shrimp

Thanks again for all the info! As far as feeding goes, are you saying that they don't need any food of their own but will just eat the "leftovers" from the fish?

    banboo shrimp

Can someone give me some info on this species? I saw them in the petstore and thought they looked cool. Would it do okay in my 10 gal with 5 or so guppies and mollies? What do they eat, and could it escape as I don't have a hood over the tank but only a screen to keep fish from jumping (but...

    feeding question

I am planning on getting several guppies and mollies for my ten gallon tank. For food, I think I'm going to feed flake food and algae wafers. But to give them some variety, I know its recommended to feed some daphnea or frozen bloodworms. In place of this, could I feed them very small mealworms...

    help please

can I get a couple different kinds of cories, or the other fish that like company, not just one variety? And what exactly do you mean by "shoaling"? Do you mean they swim in a group? I just thought that was spelled "schooling." Also, what kind of flake food should I get to accomidate all the...

    help please

Yes I have a thermometer in my room. Its usually in the mid 70's during the summer, and upper 60's in the winter. So are you saying that the fish will be okay as long as the house temp doesn't drop below 68? I went to the pet store today, and I've pretty much decided what I want to put in the...

    help please

Thanks for the info. One more question: I found a caresheet for guppies, and the temp. range was 62 F on the low end. My house almost never drops below 68, and its usually above that. Do I still need a heater? Thanks again.

    help please

I have been setting up my tank to get some fish, but hadn't decided what to put in it. I saw a tank at the pet store that had some really colorful guppies in it. The sci. name was something like P. reticulata I have a 10 gallon tank with a Biowheel (105 gph) filter, an ammonia test kit...

    cleaning my cage

Actually, it was a pet. My sister brought it home one day, and I went out and spent like $25 on a 50 cent fish because I didn't want to just stick it in a bowl and watch it die. Though it would probably make a tasty snack for one of my tarantulas

    cleaning my cage

I had a small feeder goldfish, and it just recently died from fin rot. I would like to get something else for my tank, though I don't know what yet. How should I clean the tank since there must be bacteria in there? I did use antibiotic, but would that kill all the bacteria that causes fin rot...

    sunnies

That looks somewhat like it but thats not it. They're small fish, I've never seen one over 4 inches. It makes sense to me that these fish might feel "caged up" in an aquarium, but couldn't I put 1 or 2 really small ones (like 1 or 2 inchers) in a 10? I read in a tropical fish book that cold...

    sunnies

yeah sorry thats the only name I know for them, I don't claim to be a fish expert, actually tarantulas and scorpions are more my favorite pets, I really new to fish. Maybe its spelled sunny? I dunno, they have somewhat large and spiky dorsal fins and the scales are reflective, kinda like a...

    sunnies

I live near a pond where a lot of sunnies live, and I think they're pretty cool fish, and they look pretty hardy and not to mention free. So could I put either one 3" or 4" fish or a few smaller ones in my 10 gallon tank with Biowheel 105gph filter? If so, what should I feed it? I'm assuming...

    newbie questions

Thanks for the info. I know that a goldfish can't live forever in a 10 gallon becuase they just get too big. And plus I didn't really want a goldfish. Actually, I never planned to get a fish at all, my sister came home from a fair one day with this little goldfish along with parasite friend...

    newbie questions

hi I'm new to the whole fish thing. well right now I have a small feeder goldfish with bad fin rot. But I'm giving it daily salt dips and it seems to be recovering, the fin even looks bigger. Anyway, since I only have a 10 gallon, I won't be able to keep this fish if it reaches its full size...
