    Apisto's,clown Loaches,corys,cardinal Tetras And More

Well a couple have had some faint black markings on them which I understand is normal for clown loaches? Were you meaning anything in particular? The apistos are fantastic. The female has just changed colouration. So they are probably ready to be bred. But they are really interesting even...

    Over Filtration?

Too strong a current can be a problem but spray bars sort this. But thats not necessary filtration. thats flow. powerheads for example would give flow but no filtration alone. RO and DI aren't tank filtration. They are water preparations. Yes too much pure water would be deadly. It...

    Fishless Cycle

Yes to ammonia and nitrite of 0. Nitrates will be sky high (hence a final massive water change to remove these). PH is of no consequence and will be dependant on your source water. For example I doubt anybody around Kent where I am can get ph 7 water from their tap lol (more like liquid rock...

    Over Filtration?

Are you planning to keep discus in this 30g tank? I think it might be a bit small. Except perhaps maybe for a mated pair or some little ones that will be moved onto a larger tank in 12mths? ANd you definitely can't filter too much. especially for discus :)

    Level of Light

It depends on the size of your tank. WPG falls over in smaller or larger tanks.... For example I have an 80g tank with 150w over it, but its growing red ludwigia and many other red plants aboslutely great... with no co2 addition as well.

    Controling Nitrate using plants??

nope wrong one lol They had that out for ages, its just nitrazorb but slightly better. you want the BIO nitratex, let me see if I can dig up the same page for it.... yep here ya go... clicky linky lol The difference is the one you posted just absorbs upto 9000mg nitrate, this BIO one doesnt...

    Controling Nitrate using plants??

check the tap water nitrate. if your tap water nitrate is 50 (like mine is) your fighting a losing battle. Plants will do it, but your talking good lighting, co2 injection etc. Its a lifestyle not an easy change ;) Moderate planting will certainly help equal it out.... Another option... do...

    Dwarf Puffer Setups

thought id share, the planting of the tank can really affect these rules. I keep 5 DPs in a 20g tall tank - for over a year now - along with 10 ottos, some baby bristlenoses, around 30 amano shrimps, and some siamese algae eaters (yes the proper ones). Barring a few nipped fins for the saes...

    DP Clean up crew

I have ottos (which are not bothered AT ALL), baby bristlenoses (adults DO get harassed) and shrimps. My tank is very heavily planted tho and its 5 puffs in a 20gal tall. I also have SAEs with mine (since they were small) and they get nipped occasionally but nothing bad. Mostly everyone gets...

    CAEs

CAEs are horrible whent hey get older. I'd be very cautious. The last thing you want is the puffer getting stressed alot.

    DPs

Should be able to keep 2 or 3 in 40ltr but make sure there is only 1 male and its heavily planted. heavier than you think is heavily ;) Mine is very heavily planted and I keep shrimps no problem, altho when my cherrys bred the puffs ate those. But they dont attack the full grown shrimps at...

cheers very useful!!! I did find a mail order UK place to get all of the above now. so I just gotta find out the advantages of each and choose! lol. eco-complete looks great as its black and quite fine (anybody know how fine??) but then fluorite is also nice as I can pick my own substrate and...

    Dwarf puffers

thanks for reply. yeah the plec is a maybe. I have 3 other tanks so he can be rescued if need be. I reckon the finnage might just be too tempting for them lol. we'll see. I haev since found a few sites with lots of info, maybe they are the ones you mean ;) And yeah heavily planted is the...

    Lateralite and Fluorite

Cheers very useful info. What about eco-complete??? I really want something in between sand and gravel, about 2mm, and so I am looking for silica grit now. THough I fear it will be rough edged and not very nice for my puffers. I usually use MTS in my other sand tanks to aerate the...

    Lateralite and Fluorite

I am wanting to setup a really heavily planted tank for Dwarf Puffers, ala Takashi Amano style. I've read about Lateralite (sp) and Fluorite, but being in the UK never seen them anywhere. Can anyone point me somewhere that explains what each is and how to use them/how they work, and what the...

    Dwarf puffers

I am setting up a new tank for dwarf puffers. I just got a 24x18x12 (22.5g) tank (high kind). I was told this would be good for about 8 dwarf puffers (seems to work on the 2-3g per fish rule). I was also going to odd a few dwarf ottos for cleaning up, maybe a small plec too - would that be...
